Background: The efficacy of a novel oral combination product, Simparica Trio™, containing sarolaner, moxidectin and pyrantel was evaluated against five tick species that commonly infest dogs in the USA, Amblyomma americanum, Amblyomma maculatum, Dermacentor variabilis, Ixodes scapularis and Rhipicephalus sanguineus.

Methods: Laboratory studies were conducted against two different strains of each tick species. In each study, 10 purpose-bred Beagle or mixed-breed dogs were randomly allocated to one of two treatment groups based on pre-treatment host-suitability tick counts.

Usually, the energy released as air-coupled sound following a collision is dismissed as negligible. The goal of this Letter is to quantify the value of this small but measurable quantity, since it can be useful to impact studies. This paper presents slight deviations from Hertz's impact law, inferred from acoustic signatures of polypropylene ball collisions. An impact acoustics model is used to fit the acoustic data. The mode of action of the insect growth regulator, fenoxycarb, on embryogenesis of cat flea eggs, Ctenocephalides felis (Bouché), was evaluated biologically and morphologically. Newly oviposited flea eggs were aged for 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, or 72 h and exposed to fenoxycarb (1.1 micrograms/cm2) on filter paper disks for 0 (60 s), 2, 4, 8, 12, or 24 h at 23 +/- 1 degree C and 70 +/- 3% RH.

Rabbits infested with Psoroptes ovis (Hering) or with P cuniculi (Delafond) were injected IM or subcutaneously with ivermectin or with vehicle. A single injection of ivermectin (200 micrograms/kg) either IM or subcutaneously was inadequate to eliminate all mites in the ears of the rabbits. However, a single injection of ivermectin at 400 micrograms/kg, regardless of the route of injection, eliminated all P cuniculi mites, but eliminated P ovis mites in only 50% of the rabbits.

Cattle were dosed daily with a wet lead-based paint at a rate of about 6 mg of lead per kg per day for 60 weeks. The cattle did not exhibit overt symptoms of lead toxicosis. Blood and fecal samples collected during the study, and tissue samples obtained at slaughter of the animals were analyzed for lead by atomic absorption spectrophotometer equipped with a graphite furnace.
