Article Synopsis
  • - Patients with diabetes have a higher risk of infections, and this study focused on how staphylococcal enterotoxin A (SEA) affects immune cells in diabetic mice.
  • - The study examined how two compounds, EGCG and nobiletin, influence inflammation-related gene expression in response to SEA, showing that they work through different mechanisms.
  • - Findings suggest that understanding SEA's impact on inflammation in diabetes could help develop strategies using polyphenols to manage these effects.

Staphylococcal enterotoxin A (SEA), which is a superantigen toxin protein, binds to cytokine receptor gp130. Gp130 activates intracellular signaling pathways, including the Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway. The effects of SEA on the JAK/STAT signaling pathway in mouse spleen cells were examined.
