Objective: As the number of women in medical training rises, there has been increased interest in understanding the perspectives of minority women. Although Muslim women face unique challenges in pursuing medical training, there are no current studies dedicated to understanding the experience of Muslim women as healthcare professionals. This study aims to present insight into perspectives of United States-based Muslim women physicians, residents, and medical students on discrimination and allyship, the operating room environment, mentorship, and institutional resources.

Endoscopic Internal Drainage Achieving Successful Closure of Iatrogenic Pharyngoesophageal Fistula.

Endoscopic internal drainage (EID) is a minimally invasive endoscopic technique that effectively closes upper gastrointestinal fistulas. We report the successful closure of an oropharyngeal fistula in a 78-year-old man with a history of supraglottic squamous cell carcinoma. He presented with inspiratory stridor after biopsy of a lateral wall lesion in the piriformis sinus.

Interstitial granulomatous dermatitis (IGD) is a rare dermatological disorder. It is most commonly associated with autoimmune disorders mainly lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. It has rarely been reported to present as a first manifestation of an underlying vasculitis.

Blastomycosis is a rare fungal infection that typically presents as a pulmonary infection. Systemic involvement of blastomycosis from the lungs commonly occurs in the skin and bones. Tracheal involvement is an unusual presentation of blastomycosis, which makes it a formidable diagnostic challenge.

Community Health Worker Program Outcomes for Diabetes and Hypertension Control in West Bank Refugee Camps: A Retrospective Matched Cohort Study.

Introduction: Community health worker (CHW) programs have proven effective in improving diabetes control in many locations and settings, but data on feasibility and efficacy are lacking in the Middle East and settings of chronic violence. A Palestinian CHW program, Health for Palestine (H4P), addresses chronic diseases in West Bank refugee camps. Our study assesses the feasibility and effectiveness of the program's diabetes and hypertension interventions.

Binding between an amine cationic surfactant and DNA and surface properties of the resultant aggregates.

Binding between cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, a cationic surfactant, and a variety of lengths of single stranded DNA was measured using fluorescence polarization and a simple cooperative model was used to obtain dissociation constants on the order of 1 × 10 for the aggregates that formed. Aggregation depended on strand length where strands much shorter than 40 nucleotides (for example strands of 24-nucleotides) were too short to form the same size aggregates. Other factors such as salt concentration and temperature also affected aggregate formation: increasing either the salt concentration or performing binding at the highest temperature studied (60 °C) made it more difficult for aggregates to form.

Mucormycosis with extensive cranial nerve involvement as the first presentation of diabetes mellitus: A case report.

Mucormycosis, a rare fungal infection, mainly affects individuals with diabetes mellitus and those who were immunocompromised and has a high mortality rate. Its most common presentation is similar to that of acute bacterial sinusitis with symptoms of nasal congestion, headache, and fever. The involvement of multiple cranial nerves in mucormycosis was rarely reported in the literature and indicates severe disease.

Urothelial carcinoma of the fossa navicularis successfully treated with laser ablation and distal urethrectomy: A case report.

Primary urothelial carcinomas very rarely arise from the fossa navicularis of the penis. They are rarely reported in the literature, with only 13 cases reported thus far. Herein, we present the case of a 34-year-old man with bloody urethral discharge due to a mass detected by cystourethroscopy in the fossa navicularis.

Introduction: In late 2019, a novel strain of coronavirus, discovered in the city of Wuhan, China, was found to cause a disease later named coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19. In January 2020, COVID-19 first reached the Gulf region. Afterwards, the disease spread rapidly across the countries of the Gulf and the number of COVID-19 cases rose significantly.

Talar neck non-union in an athlete successfully treated with a synthetic bone graft: A case report.

Talar neck non-union is a rare complication of talar neck fractures. No guidelines are currently available for the proper management of this complication; thus, it can be hard for orthopaedic surgeons to successfully treat. Here we are reporting a case of talar neck non-union occurring in a 22-year-old male patient after a road traffic accident and presented to our institution 10 months after the initial injury.

Successful Radiofrequency Ablation of an Atrial Flutter in an Elderly Patient With Uncorrected Ebstein's Anomaly.

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart disorder that causes displacement of the tricuspid valve towards the apex of the heart. Patients with this anomaly rarely survive beyond the age of 70 without surgical correction. When such patients survive till adulthood, they tend to present with atrial arrhythmias.

Three-dimensional position of impacted maxillary canines: Prevalence, associated pathology and introduction to a new classification system.

Classification of impacted maxillary canines facilitates interdisciplinary communication. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has proven to be superior for the localization of impacted maxillary canines compared with 2D imaging. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively classify a cohort of impacted maxillary canines, using a new developed 3D classification for impacted maxillary canines that is easy to use and does not require complex analysis of the 3D images.

Trueness of cone beam computed tomography versus intra-oral scanner derived three-dimensional digital models: An ex vivo study.

Objectives: To compare the trueness of 3D digital models derived from CBCT and IOS and to evaluate their accuracy for implementation in oral implant rehabilitation.

Materials And Methods: A dry human mandible with a full set of intact teeth was included in the study. The mandible was scanned using Trios IOS and four different CBCT machines with various protocols for generation of 3D digital models.

Use of CBCT Guidance for Tooth Autotransplantation in Children.

Tooth autotransplantation (TAT) offers a viable biological approach to tooth replacement in children and adolescents. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcome of the cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT)-guided TAT compared to the conventional TAT protocol and to assess the 3-dimensional (3D) patterns of healing after CBCT-guided TAT (secondary aim). This study included 100 autotransplanted teeth in 88 patients.

An examination of soil and water conservation practices in the paddy fields of Guilan province, Iran.

This study examined the use of soil and water conservation (SWC) practices among rice farmers in Iran. A random sample of 400 rice paddy farmers in the Foumanat plain of Guilan province, who use SWC measures, was drawn from a population of 52 thousand farmers. A two-part questionnaire was used to examine the level of utilization of SWC practices and to profile paddy farmers.

Safety and effectiveness of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor in mobilizing stem cells and improving cytokine profile in advanced chronic heart failure.

The objective of this study was to determine a safe and effective dose of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) to mobilize hematopoietic stem cells in patients with advanced heart failure and to determine its effects on the cytokine profile. Objective: We investigated the documentation of obesity as a medical problem, and subsequent management recommendations, in patients after myocardial infarction (MI).

Design: We performed a cross-sectional analysis of a randomly selected sample of 627 patients discharged after an MI, from five US teaching hospitals between 1/1/01 and 12/31/02. Information was extracted from clinical notes using standardized definitions.
