Article Synopsis
  • Peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) is a severe heart condition that can occur late in pregnancy or shortly after delivery, impacting both mother and baby.
  • A study in Oman from 2010 to 2018 found that out of over 113,000 deliveries, 116 cases of PPCM were identified, leading to an incidence rate of 1.02 per 1000 deliveries.
  • Key risk factors included age, singleton pregnancies, and gestational hypertension, with favorable maternal outcomes but notable complications. Measures like creating a national PPCM database and guidelines are recommended for better disease management and awareness.
