Clinical and preclinical studies suggest that early life stress can increase the risk of developing ethanol use disorder later in life. Although the endocannabinoid (eCB) system plays a role in stress-related behaviors and ethanol consumption, it remains unclear whether the eCB system is affected in response to a combination of both factors. By using male and female adolescent C57BL/6J mice subjected to a maternal separation (MS) stress paradigm from postnatal day (PND) 1 to 14, we explored (1) the consequences of early life stress experiences on ethanol consumption in adolescent mice and (2) how these events affect the eCB system and neuronal activation in brain regions associated with the reward system.

The present work evaluated the consequences of chronic maternal separation (MS), an animal model of early-life stress, on ethanol intake and striatal Fos expression induced by ethanol consumption. Furthermore, we analyzed MS impacts on anxiety- and depressive-like behaviors and on locomotor and plasma corticosterone responses to intraperitoneal treatment with ethanol in adolescent mice. During the last 150 years, the trout-culture industry focused on enhancing trout populations by stocking, in response to the growing anglers' demand and the habitat degradation associated to the rapid urbanization and hydropower development. The industrialized north of Italy, home to the Italian Alpine and subalpine trout populations, is the source of most of the revenues of the national trout-culture industry. Its rapid growth, and the massive introduction of non-native interfertile trouts eroded the genetic diversity of native lineages, leading to harsh confrontations between scientists, institutions, and sportfishing associations.

Maternal separation (MS) stress is a predictive animal model for evaluating the effects of early stress exposure on alcohol use disorders (AUD).
