Background: Obesity is continually growing not only in medium- and high-income countries but also in low-income countries, from where increasing numbers of migrants arrive in Western countries. We aimed to investigate the frequency and characteristics of obesity in a sample of undocumented migrants, a population for which official health data are not available.
Methods: We collected demographic and socio-economic data and information on medical diagnoses and pharmacologic treatments for 341 undocumented migrants consecutively attending the outpatient clinic of a big non-governmental organisation in Milan, Italy, from March to July 2023.

This case study explores the efficacy of adjunctive therapy with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in the management of RMS in an 11-year-old male patient with compound heterozygous pathogenic variants of INSR. Despite initial efforts to regulate glycemia with insulin therapy followed by metformin treatment, achieving stable glycemic control presented a critical challenge, characterized by persistent hyperinsulinism and variable fluctuations in glucose levels.

Methods: We randomly assigned adults with moderate or severe traumatic brain injury and anemia to receive transfusion of red cells according to a liberal strategy (transfusions initiated at a hemoglobin level of ≤10 g per deciliter) or a restrictive strategy (transfusions initiated at ≤7 g per deciliter). The primary outcome was an unfavorable outcome as assessed by the score on the Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended at 6 months, which we categorized with the use of a sliding dichotomy that was based on the prognosis of each patient at baseline.

Background: Compared to Immediate-Release (IR) metformin, Extended-Release (ER) metformin reduces side effects and pill burden while improving adherence; however, there is little real-life data on patient satisfaction with this innovative formulation to guide physicians toward a more holistic approach.
Objective: Our goal is to train general practitioners on holistic patient management, with the aim of increasing patient satisfaction and treatment adherence, reducing side effects, and improving quality of life in patients with poor tolerance to metformin-IR.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe report two cases of acute spinal cord compression in children with low-flow spinal epidural arteriovenous fistulas (SEAVFs) and discuss the clinical presentation and management of these vascular anomalies. While most low-flow SEAVFs without radiculomedullary drainage are benign lesions typically diagnosed incidentally, we suggest that asymptomatic lesions may warrant aggressive management in specific circumstances, including lesions diagnosed at an early age or in patients under anticoagulation therapy. Our observations also emphasize that patients with a "spontaneous" epidural hemorrhage should undergo dedicated preoperative or postoperative vascular imaging to identify a possible underlying vascular anomaly.

The ICARUS collaboration employed the 760-ton T600 detector in a successful 3-year physics run at the underground LNGS laboratory, performing a sensitive search for LSND-like anomalous appearance in the CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso beam, which contributed to the constraints on the allowed neutrino oscillation parameters to a narrow region around 1 eV.
