Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how Bariatric Surgery (BS) affects pregnancy outcomes in women, comparing those who had BS to those in different BMI categories (obesity, overweight, normal weight).
  • A total of 6,212 pregnant women were analyzed, revealing that post-BS women were more likely to experience cesarean deliveries, preterm births, stillbirths, and have low-birth-weight babies.
  • The authors suggest that pregnancies following BS should be regarded as high-risk, emphasizing the need for careful monitoring during antenatal and postnatal care.

Seagrass ecosystems provide vital services but face increasing threats from human activities. Marine protected areas (MPAs) aim to mitigate these threats, but inadequate funding and management hinder effective conservation. Seagrass-associated tourism presents an opportunity to fund conservation efforts, enhance MPA implementation, and improve local livelihoods.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to compare the fracture resistance of canine teeth restored with TRINIA Endocrowns using three different preparation depths (2 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm).
  • Thirty extracted maxillary canines were endodontically treated and divided into three groups, each receiving endocrowns bonded using a dual-cure resin cement.
  • Results indicated that endocrowns with 2 mm and 3 mm preparations exhibited significantly higher fracture resistance compared to the 4 mm preparation, with the 2 mm version being mostly reparable after failure.

Article Synopsis
  • Next-generation sequencing (NGS) is helping to identify rare germline genetic variations linked to inherited diseases, such as cancer predisposition syndromes (CPSs), which are significant factors in childhood cancers.
  • There is no consensus on guidelines for germline genetic testing in children with cancer due to the advancing knowledge in NGS technology, prompting recommendations for clinical screening to identify high-risk individuals.
  • The text discusses the clinical features of CPSs, ethical considerations, challenges in implementation, and proposes a systematic approach for integrating genomic newborn screening into healthcare to improve pediatric cancer care.

Aim: In comparing the effectiveness and efficiency of different types of post removal systems in removing different types of fiber posts (FPs), this study aims to shed light on the success of removal by currently available drill systems.

Materials And Methods: A total of 200 maxillary first molars, were root canal treated and prepared to receive posts. The molars were divided into four groups corresponding to four different FPs: Group RX, Radix FP; Group RF, Reforpost Glass Fiber; Group HI; Hi-Rem Endodontic Post; and Group DT, D.

Background: Bariatric surgery is performed in obese women of reproductive age to help achieve a healthy prepregnancy weight to reduce the complications associated with obesity in pregnancy. However, these procedures can impact maternal nutrition and gestational weight gain (GWG). This study evaluates the maternal and neonatal outcomes in women with prepregnancy bariatric surgery and determines the impact on GWG.

Background: Cesarean delivery (CD) is associated with increased maternal and neonatal morbidity compared to vaginal delivery, particularly in cases classified as emergency procedures or when there are multiple CDs. This retrospective cohort study aims to examine the incidence of maternal and neonatal complications in women with multiple CDs.

Methods: This study used data from a national perinatal database obtained from a single tertiary maternity care hospital.

Background: The prevalence of childhood and adult obesity is rising exponentially worldwide. Class IV obesity (body mass index, BMI ≥50 kg/m) is associated with a higher risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. This study compared these outcomes between women with class IV obesity and women in the normal or overweight categories during pregnancy.

Background: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive disease caused by mutations and deletions in SMN1 at exon 7. The carrier frequency for SMN1 mutations ranges from 2 to 4% in the general population.

Methods: We examined allelic, genotypic relatedness and copy number (CN) variations and frequencies of SMN1 and SMN2, in 13,426 samples from Qatar biobank (QBB) to provide a precise estimation of SMA carrier frequency in Qatar in comparison to other populations.

Objective: Maternal body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain (GWG) are modifiable risk factors that influence pregnancy outcomes. We examined the association between the two factors in pregnant women in Qatar with regard to the GWG recommendations by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2009.

Methods: We performed a population-based retrospective cohort analysis of 3547 singleton births, using routinely collected data from a Middle Eastern hospital database.

Objectives: Abnormal body mass index (BMI) during pregnancy, a growing public health concern, increases maternal and neonatal complications. This study aimed to investigate the impact of abnormal BMI on perinatal outcomes compared to normal BMI.

Methods: A total of 14,624 women having singleton births were categorized as underweight (BMI<18.

Background: The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted pregnant women, increasing maternal and neonatal morbidity. The placenta is a potential target for the pathophysiological processes due to the increased thrombotic inflammatory activation and inadequate uteroplacental perfusion and oxygenation, potentially causing intrauterine growth restriction. This study investigates the impact of gestational age at diagnosis of COVID-19 and the presence of symptoms on intrauterine fetal growth in pregnant women.

Objectives: The reasons for increased cesarean section (CS) rates are complex and multifactorial. The goal of this study was to look at different social and economic factors that might be causing more cases of CS in the population.

Study Design: A retrospective population-based cohort study.

Background: Dyslipidemia is recognized as one of the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Objective: The study aimed to investigate the association between selected single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with dyslipidemia and increased susceptibility risks of CVD, NAFLD, and/or T2DM in dyslipidemia patients in comparison with healthy control individuals from the Qatar genome project.

Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 2933 adults (859 dyslipidemia patients and 2074 healthy control individuals) from April to December 2021 to investigate the association between 331 selected SNPs with dyslipidemia and increased susceptibility risks of CVD, NAFLD and/or T2DM, and covariates.

Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans in the sediments of aquatic systems are a persistent global problem that poses serious health risks. Identifying the sources of dioxins in natural water systems and the extent of their contributions to observed sediment concentrations is important from a health advisory and mitigation perspective. This paper proposes novel distribution-based qualitative and quantitative methods as source apportionment techniques and alternatives to conventional source attribution methods.

Seagrasses offer diverse ecosystem services, yet, they are among the most threatened ecosystems. When degraded or destroyed, their services are lost or reduced in the process, affecting, for instance, local communities directly dependent on their livelihood provision. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reported that climate change is projected to worsen over time; thus, there is an urgent need for mitigation strategies in practice and also in the longer term.

Antiphase behaviour of monsoon systems in alternate hemispheres is well established at yearly and orbital scales in response to alternating sensible heating of continental landmasses. At intermediate timescales without a sensible heating mechanism both in-phase and antiphase behaviours of northern and southern hemisphere monsoon systems are recorded at different places and timescales. At present, there is no continuous, high resolution, precisely dated record of millennial-scale variability of the Indonesian-Australian monsoon during the last glacial period with which to test theories of paleomonsoon behaviour.

Objective: This study is aimed at determining two main points. First, if the Canary System™ (CS), initially used to assess caries, can measure a decalcification depth of bleached enamel quantitatively, and second, whether or not whitening has a harmful effect on enamel. This device can be considered a useful tool in the clinical assessment of the progression of demineralization after bleaching.
