Nanocarbon-Polymer Composites for Next-Generation Breast Implant Materials.

Most breast implants currently used in both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery have a silicone outer shell, which, despite much progress, remains susceptible to mechanical failure, infection, and foreign body response. This study shows that the durability and biocompatibility of breast implant-grade silicone can be enhanced by incorporating carbon nanomaterials of sp and sp hybridization into the polymer matrix and onto its surface. Plasma treatment of the implant surface can be used to modify platelet adhesion and activation to prevent thrombosis, postoperative infection, and inflammation disorders.

Detecting emotions from facial images is difficult because facial expressions can vary significantly. Previous research on using deep learning models to classify emotions from facial images has been carried out on various datasets that contain a limited range of expressions. This study expands the use of deep learning for facial emotion recognition (FER) based on Emognition dataset that includes ten target emotions: amusement, awe, enthusiasm, liking, surprise, anger, disgust, fear, sadness, and neutral.

Unraveling the Regimes of Interfacial Thermal Conductance at a Solid/Liquid Interface.

The interfacial thermal conductance at a solid/liquid interface () exhibits an exponential-to-linear crossover with increasing solid/liquid interaction strength, previously attributed to the relative strength of solid/liquid to liquid/liquid interactions. Instead, using a simple Lennard-Jones setup, our molecular simulations reveal that this crossover occurs due to the onset of solidification in the interfacial liquid at high solid/liquid interaction strengths. This solidification subsequently influences interfacial energy transport, leading to the crossover in .

Evaluation of Tunisian wheat endophytes as plant growth promoting bacteria and biological control agents against Fusarium culmorum.

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) applications have emerged as an ideal substitute for synthetic chemicals by their ability to improve plant nutrition and resistance against pathogens. In this study, we isolated fourteen root endophytes from healthy wheat roots cultivated in Tunisia. The isolates were identified based from their 16S rRNA gene sequences.

Removal of benzophenone-4 via chlorination and advanced oxidation processes in aqueous solution: kinetics, by-product identification, and mechanistic studies.

Benzophenone-4 (BP-4) is one of the UV filters widely used in personal care products (PCPs). BP-4 has been identified as an emergent contaminant detected in influent and effluent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) at high concentrations showing that conventional treatment is unable to remove it, subsequently, the presence of BP-4 in surface water is inevitable. In this study, we focus on the degradation of this compound by chlorine, and we report the efficiency of its removal from water by applying two advanced oxidation processes UV/TiO and UV/HO aiming to achieve a superior mineralization result.

Characterizing Air Medical Transport Experiences in Emergency Medicine Residency Training Programs.

Objective: Air medical transportation (AMT) of patients plays a critical role in the prehospital care of the ill patient. Despite its importance, there is no requirement in emergency medicine training programs to have direct experience or education on the topic, and data detailing current AMT experiences across programs are limited.

Methods: A survey detailing program characteristics, AMT experience characteristics, and curriculum factors relating to AMT experience was sent to all 275 credentialed emergency medicine residency training programs in the United States.

Detecting fake news during COVID-19 in Indonesia: the role of trust level.

Background: The use of social media as a platform to access news and information has the potential to lead to the spread of fake news in Indonesia. This study aims to (1) understand the trust characteristics in information of Indonesians during COVID-19; (2) identify Indonesians' ability to detect COVID-19 fake news; and (3) analyze the relationship between people's trust characteristics in information with regard to COVID-19 information and their ability to detect fake news.

Method: An online survey was conducted with 751 Indonesians who use social media to access information about COVID-19.

Renal Endometriosis in a Postmenopausal Female Mimics Renal Cell Carcinoma.

A 61-year-old postmenopausal female with a past medical history of type 2 diabetes, nephrolithiasis, and recurrent urinary tract infections presented to an outpatient urology clinic with a chief complaint of urinary frequency, urgency, and burning after micturition. Associated symptoms included nausea, a low-grade fever with chills, and right flank pain. After treatment with antibiotics did not relieve all of her symptoms, imaging was obtained, showing a cystic mass with calcifications in the right kidney.

Antitubular Basement Membrane Antibody Disease Associated with Nivolumab Infusion and Concomitant Acute Pyelonephritis Leading to Acute Kidney Injury : a Case Report and Literature Review.

Antitubular basement membrane (anti-TBM) antibody disease is an extremely rare disorder. It may be idiopathic or secondary to exposure of the proximal tubular basement membrane, triggered by tubular injury due to acute pyelonephritis, acute allergic interstitial nephritis, or kidney allograft rejection. The histopathology of anti-TBM antibody disease is characterized by strong linear deposits of IgG with complement C3 along the proximal tubular cell basement membranes.
