Quantitative systems toxicology (QST) models are increasingly being applied for predicting and understanding toxicity liabilities in pharmaceutical research and development. A European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA)-wide survey was completed by 15 companies. The results provide insights into the current use of QST models across the industry.

The Natal multimammate mouse () is the host of Lassa mammarenavirus, causing Lassa haemorrhagic fever in West Africa. As there is currently no operational vaccine and therapeutic drugs are limited, we explored rodent control as an alternative to prevent Lassa virus spillover in Upper Guinea, where the disease is highly endemic in rural areas. In a seven-year experiment, we distributed rodenticides for 10-30 days once a year and, in the last year, added intensive snap trapping for three months in all the houses of one village.

To provide a reliable evolutionary scenario, new rodent-derived, whole LASV sequences were included. These were generated by metatranscriptomic next-generation sequencing from rodents sampled between 2003 and 2020 in 21 localities of Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Background: Whereas past research provided evidence for a perfect automation schema, more recent research has provided contradictory evidence.
Method: To disentangle these conflicting findings, we conducted an online experiment using a simulated medical X-ray task.
Downstream analysis of virus-infected cell samples, such as reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT PCR) or mass spectrometry, often needs to be performed at lower biosafety levels than their actual cultivation, and thus the samples require inactivation before they can be transferred. Common inactivation methods involve chemical crosslinking with formaldehyde or denaturing samples with strong detergents, such as sodium dodecyl sulfate. However, these protocols destroy the protein quaternary structure and prevent the analysis of protein complexes, albeit through different chemical mechanisms.

There has also been an emphasis on studying apraxia of speech, whereas less is known about dysarthria or other forms of MSDs. This study aimed to examine the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of MSDs in a prospective sample of individuals with PPA independent of subtype.

As a consequence, IwTBI may be impaired in conversational behavior and disadvantaged in their socio-communicative participation. Even though handling discourse is thought to be a basic requirement for participation and quality of life, only a handful of test procedures assessing discourse disorders have been developed so far.

We investigated the impact of frequency of interruptions in a simulated medical visual search task. Participants ( = 150) performed the visual search task during which they were interrupted by a number-classification task in 25, 50, or 75% of all trials, respectively, reflecting the frequency conditions (i.e.

Introduction: Three-dimensional surgical planning software provides virtual reconstructions of the shoulder with automated joint indices for a preoperative case assessment. The aim of this single center study was to evaluate the concordance between the preoperatively selected humeral components and the final implants used in shoulder arthroplasty.
Methods: 129 cases who had undergone anatomic (n = 16) or reverse shoulder arthroplasty (n = 117) using the same type of uncemented short stem implant and were included for review in this study.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a metabolic and inflammatory disease that afflicts many people worldwide and presently has few treatment options. To enhance the preclinical to clinical translation and the design of early clinical trials for novel therapeutics, we developed a Quantitative Systems Pharmacology model of human hepatocyte lipid metabolism. The intended application of the model is for simulating anti-steatotic therapies for reversing fatty liver.

Background: Time pressure usually impairs manual performance in visual search tasks, but DSS support might neutralize this negative effect. Moreover, understanding the impact of time pressure and DSS support seems relevant for many real-world applications of visual search.
Objective: This study manipulates the presence and reliability of AI recommendations for risky decisions to measure the effect on task performance, behavioral consequences of trust, and deviation from a probability matching collaborative decision-making model.
Background: Although AI decision support improves performance, people tend to underutilize AI recommendations, particularly when outcomes are uncertain. As AI reliability increases, task performance improves, largely due to higher rates of compliance (following action recommendations) and reliance (following no-action recommendations).
Background: Symptom checker apps are patient-facing decision support systems aimed at providing advice to laypersons on whether, where, and how to seek health care (disposition advice). Such advice can improve laypersons' self-assessment and ultimately improve medical outcomes. Past research has mainly focused on the accuracy of symptom checker apps' suggestions.

However, countries with similar levels of cultural tightness exhibit big differences in mortality rates.

We present findings on the potential acceptance of such a requirement by the German population, and we report on the reasons given for accepting or rejecting it and how these reasons vary according to population subgroup.
Methods: We used representative data from the Socio-Economic Panel for the period January to December 2021.

(1) Background: The wide range of preparedness, physical fitness, and capabilities of older athletes makes it challenging to recommend general training programs for this cohort ranging from ages 35 to 80 and older. Weightlifting has enjoyed an unprecedented growth in recent years, especially among women. The objectives of this study are to describe age and sex differences in self-reported training regimens and concurrent training for Masters weightlifters and investigate regional differences.

Sport has been heavily impacted by the pandemic for over a year with restrictions and closures of facilities. The main aims of this study are to identify motivation and barriers for an international group of Master weightlifters (ages 35 and up) and analyze age and gender differences in pandemic-related changes to physical activities. A sample of 1051 older athletes, 523 women and 528 men, aged from 35 to 88 years, from Australia, Canada, Europe, and the USA provided responses to an online survey conducted in June 2021.
