Objective: Optimizing sexual history intake is crucial for effective STI screening and diagnosis. This study, conducted at a university health center, investigated whether implementing a self-administered electronic questionnaire focused on organ contact, compared to the conventional verbal intake method used previously, would increase the number and diversity of screening tests, and subsequently improve detection rates for chlamydia (CT) and gonorrhea (GC).

Methods: The number and types of CT and GC tests ordered, along with diagnosis rates, were analyzed during the implementation of the electronic questionnaire and compared with data from the preceding four years.

Background: Hospital-acquired catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) are considered "never events" and are reportable to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as a quality indicator. Despite protocols to determine appropriate removal of urinary catheters as soon as possible, severely injured trauma patients often require prolonged catheterization during ongoing resuscitation or develop retention requiring catheter replacement, exposing them to risk for CAUTI. Recently, Delta-E effect magnetic field sensors based on exchange-biased magnetic multilayers have shown the potential of detecting low-frequency and small-amplitude magnetic fields. Their design is compatible with microelectromechanical system technology, potentially small, and therefore, suitable for arrays with a large number N of sensor elements. In this study, we explore the prospects and limitations for improving the detection limit by averaging the output of N sensor elements operated in parallel with a single oscillator and a single amplifier to avoid additional electronics and keep the setup compact.

The facile synthesis of aminoallenes, accomplished by a selenium-π-acid-catalyzed cross-coupling of an -fluorinated sulfonimide with simple, non-activated alkynes, is reported. Until now, aminoallenes were difficult to be accessed by customary means, inasmuch as pre-activated and, in part, intricate starting materials were necessary for their synthesis. In sharp contrast, the current study shows that ordinary internal alkynes can serve as simple and readily available precursors for the construction of the aminoallene motif.
