What Is the Incidence of Anesthesia-Related Adverse Events in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Offices? A Review of 61,237 Sedation Cases From a Large Private Practice Consortium.

Background: The safety of the anesthesia team model performed in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) offices has been criticized by professional and mainstream media.

Purpose: This study aims to assess the incidence of adverse anesthetic events (AEs) associated with the OMS anesthesia team model and identify risk factors associated with AEs.

Study Design, Setting, Sample: This was a retrospective cohort study utilizing a patient database from Paradigm Oral Health, Lincoln, Nebraska, a managed service organization (MSO).

Depth profiling and standardization from the back side of a sample for accurate analyses: Emphasis on quantifying low-fluence, shallow implants in diamond-like carbon.

Rationale: Back-side thinning of wafers is used to eliminate issues with transient sputtering when analyzing near-surface element distributions. Precise and accurate calibrated implants are created by including a standard reference material during the implantation. Combining these methods allows accurate analysis of low-fluence, shallow features even if matrix effects are a concern.

An Integrated Point-of-Care Ultrasound Curriculum: An Evidence-Based Approach.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has been demonstrated to improve students' medical knowledge and clinical exam skills and advances patient care through numerous diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Despite the growing use of ultrasound in medical education and clinical practice, few physician assistant (PA) programs have successfully integrated POCUS education into their curricula. This manuscript describes an evidence-based approach for integrating POCUS education throughout a 2-year PA curriculum, with the goal of serving as a useful guidepost for other PA programs as they strive to incorporate this valuable skill into their curricula.

Development of the Proposed 13 Entrustable Professional Activities for Physician Assistant Graduates.

Competency-based training has not consistently produced medical professionals who are ready to practice. To address this situation, entrustable professional activities (EPAs) have been introduced as a means to assess medical trainee readiness for their next phase of training or practice. Thirteen EPAs were developed by the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) Presidents Commission in 2016 to indicate what activities they thought future physician assistant (PA) students should be expected to perform at the completion of their PA education.

Elemental abundances of major elements in the solar wind as measured in Genesis targets and implications on solar wind fractionation.

We present elemental abundance data of C, N, O, Na, Mg, Al, Ca, and Cr in Genesis silicon targets. For Na, Mg, Al, and Ca, data from three different SW regimes are also presented. Data were obtained by backside depth profiling using Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry.

Comparison of dyad versus individual simulation-based training on stress, anxiety, cognitive load, and performance: a randomized controlled trial.

Background: Dyad learning has been shown to be an effective tool for teaching procedural skills, but little is known about how dyad learning may impact the stress, anxiety, and cognitive load that a student experiences when learning in this manner. In this pilot study, we investigate the relationship between dyad training on stress, anxiety, cognitive load, and performance in a simulated bradycardia scenario.

Methods: Forty-one fourth-year medical school trainees were randomized as dyads (n = 24) or individuals (n = 17) for an education session on day 1.

Magnesium isotopes of the bulk solar wind from Genesis diamond-like carbon films.

NASA's Genesis Mission returned solar wind (SW) to the Earth for analysis to derive the composition of the solar photosphere from solar material. SW analyses control the precision of the derived solar compositions, but their ultimate accuracy is limited by the theoretical or empirical models of fractionation due to SW formation. Mg isotopes are "ground truth" for these models since, except for CAIs, planetary materials have a uniform Mg isotopic composition (within ≤1‰) so any significant isotopic fractionation of SW Mg is primarily that of SW formation and subsequent acceleration through the corona.

Understanding heterogeneity in Genesis diamond-like carbon film using SIMS analysis of implants.

An amorphous diamond-like carbon film deposited on silicon made at Sandia National Laboratory by pulsed laser deposition was one of several solar wind (SW) collectors used by the Genesis Mission (NASA Discovery Class Mission #5). The film was ~1 μm thick, amorphous, anhydrous, and had a high ratio of - bonds (>50%).
