Background And Objectives: ASPECTs is a widely used marker to identify early stroke signs on non-enhanced computed tomography (NECT), yet it presents interindividual variability and it may be hard to use for non-experts. We introduce an algorithm capable of automatically estimating the NECT volumetric extension of early acute ischemic changes in the 3D space. We compared the power of this marker with ASPECTs evaluated by experienced practitioner in predicting the clinical outcome.

Corpse concealment involves hiding a body for criminal purposes for many different reasons, such as destroy evidence of a murder or avoid the discovery of the victim. Although defendants could argue that they did not conceal the corpse with any criminal intent, but rather to spare themselves or others from emotional distress or to honor the wishes of the deceased. However, these arguments are often challenging to substantiate, and defendants may encounter significant legal obstacles when attempting to justify their actions.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is an attractive set of processes that are being employed lately to process specific materials used in the fabrication of electrical machine components. This is because AM allows for the preservation or enhancement of their magnetic properties, which may be degraded or limited when manufactured using other traditional processes. Soft magnetic materials (SMMs), such as Fe-Si, Fe-Ni, Fe-Co, and soft magnetic composites (SMCs), are suitable materials for electrical machine additive manufacturing components due to their magnetic, thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties.

Article Synopsis
  • Angiostrongylosis is a parasitic disease in dogs that often leads to increased levels of proteins in the blood (polyclonal hyperglobulinemia), which can be identified through a specific blood test pattern known as serum protein electrophoresis.
  • A study compared 22 dogs infected with Angiostrongylus vasorum (Group 1) to a larger group of 3687 randomly selected dogs (Group 2) to see how often this specific blood pattern occurred.
  • Results showed that 59.1% of the infected dogs had the noticeable beta-2 peak pattern, while only 1.2% of the randomly selected dogs displayed a similar pattern, suggesting that this beta-2 peak

Background And Purpose: Diagnosis of posterior circulation stroke may be challenged. National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and brain imaging (non-contrast brain computed tomography-CT) are used for diagnosis; evaluation on posterior circulation stroke remains a limit of NIHSS, and the value of non-contrast CT (NCCT) is limited due to artifacts caused by the bones of the base of the skull. We tested the validity and prognostic value of posterior circulation Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (pc-ASPECTS) in patients with posterior circulation stroke.

Psychotherapy is the cornerstone of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) while pharmacotherapy should be considered only as an adjunctive intervention. In clinical practice, however, most of BPD patients only receive medication. The aim of the study is to first describe pharmacological treatment in BPD patients in Italy and secondly to evaluate if comorbidity or illness severity are associated with the prescription of different class compounds.

Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) in Italy has a relatively recent history. In the last few years, based on the increasing number of BPD patients admitted in Italian Mental Health Services (MHS), several regions have introduced treatment for BPD among their clinical priorities. A general 'call for action' has been launched within the psychiatric community.

Objective: Advanced neuroimaging has proved to be pivotal in the management of acute ischemic stroke. The use of CT perfusion (CTP) core and penumbra parameters to predict the outcome in wake-up stroke (WUS) patients in everyday clinical scenarios has not yet been investigated. The aim of our study was to investigate the predictive power of CTP parameters on functional and morphological outcomes in WUS patients treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rTPA).

The rapidly ascending trend of additive manufacturing techniques requires a tailoring of existing solidification models and the development of new numerical tools. User-friendly numerical models can be a valid aid in order to optimize operating parameter ranges with the scope to extend the modelling tools to already existing or innovative alloys. In this paper a modelling approach is described simulating the generation of single tracks on a powder bed system in a selective laser melting process.

Enteric glial cells (EGCs) influence nitric oxide (NO) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) mediated signaling in the enteric nervous system (ENS). Since Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) participates to EGC homoeostasis, this study aimed to evaluate the possible involvement of EGCs in the alterations of the inhibitory neurotransmission in TLR4 mice. Ileal segments from male TLR4 and wild-type (WT) C57BL/6J mice were incubated with the gliotoxin fluoroacetate (FA).

Article Synopsis
  • Hypohydration may increase the risk of vascular diseases and worsen outcomes for stroke patients, prompting the study to explore urine osmolality (uOsm) as a measurement of hydration status instead of blood parameters.
  • The study included 119 stroke patients, categorizing them into "poor fluid intake" (PF) and "euhydration" (EU) based on their uOsm levels at admission, finding that 52% had PF.
  • Results indicated that patients with PF had a higher likelihood of severe stroke at admission and poorer functional outcomes at discharge, suggesting a significant relationship between uOsm and stroke severity and recovery.
