Also, to assess whether adding ALS levels to a growth prediction model might improve the long-term growth prediction.
Design/methods: ALS levels were measured in 312 short SGA children at the start of growth hormone (GH) treatment.
Background: Today it is unclear which technique for delivery of an additional boost after whole breast radiotherapy for breast conserved patients should be state of the art. We present a dosimetric comparison of different non-invasive treatment techniques for additional boost delivery.
Methods: For 10 different tumor bed localizations, 7 different non-invasive treatment plans were made.
The Vero SBRT system was benchmarked in a planning study against the Novalis SRS system for quality of delivered dose distributions to intracranial lesions and assessing the Vero system's capacity for SRS. A total of 27 patients with one brain lesion treated on the Novalis system, with 3 mm leaf width MLC and C-arm gantry, were replanned for Vero, with a 5 mm leaf width MLC mounted on an O-ring gantry allowing rotations around both the horizontal and vertical axis. The Novalis dynamic conformal arc (DCA) planning included vertex arcs, using 90° couch rotation.

The last decade witnessed a significant progress in understanding the biology and immunology of colorectal cancer alongside with the technical innovations in radiotherapy. The stepwise implementation of intensity-modulated and image-guided radiation therapy by means of megavolt computed tomography and helical tomotherapy enabled us to anatomically sculpt dose delivery, reducing treatment related toxicity. In addition, the administration of a simultaneous integrated boost offers excellent local control rates.

Methods: Radiographs of 100 dogs (200 hips) were reviewed. The three measurements were performed in each hip according to previously described methods and thereafter correlated.
Background: Stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) is a safe and locally effective treatment for patients with inoperable oligometastases. The challenge remains identifying subsets of patients that benefit in terms of overall survival (OS).
Patients And Methods: Between 2005 and 2011, 309 patients with ≤5 metastases were treated by stereotactic body radiotherapy (n=209) and/or by intracranial single or fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (n=107).
Background And Purpose: The addition of chemotherapy to preoperative radiotherapy has been established as the standard of care for patients with cT3-4 rectal cancer. As an alternative strategy, we explored intensity-modulated and image-guided radiotherapy (IMRT-IGRT) with a simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) in a prospective phase II study. A dual-modality verification system, consisting of an on-board orthogonal kV and planar MV imaging device, was validated and applied retrospectively to patient data.
Methods And Materials: Real-time tumor tracking (RTTT) was managed by applying PAN and TILT angular corrections to the therapeutic beam using a gimbaled linac.
We examine the concept of medical futility by addressing several questions. Should doctors be attempting treatments that have little likelihood of achieving the goals of medicine? What are the goals of medicine? Can we agree when medical treatment fails to achieve such goals? What should the physician do and not do under such circumstances? Exploring these issues has forced us to revisit the doctor-patient relationship and the relationship of the medical profession to society. Medical futility has both quantitative and qualitative components.
