This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the safety of montelukast in treating asthma during pregnancy, focusing on maternal and fetal outcomes such as congenital anomalies (CA), preterm delivery, low birthweight, spontaneous abortion, gestational diabetes mellitus, and preeclampsia. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in Google Scholar, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library databases from inception until April 30, 2024. The eligible studies assessed the safety of montelukast for asthma treatment during pregnancy.

Diabetes-related distress (DRD) is a psychological syndrome with worsened prognosis in uncontrolled diabetic patients. The current study aimed to assess the factors contributing to DRD among the Lebanese population using the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS-17) score and its sub-scores. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted between March and September 2021 enrolling.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic non-communicable endocrine disease that has a considerable impact on both the health and quality of life (QoL) of patients. This study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic factors associated with the quality of life among the Lebanese population with DM.

Methods: A cross-sectional study that enrolled 125 diabetic patients aged ≥18, was conducted between January and June of 2021.

The Fezouata Biota (Morocco) is a unique Early Ordovician fossil assemblage. The discovery of this biota revolutionized our understanding of Earth's early animal diversifications-the Cambrian Explosion and the Ordovician Radiation-by suggesting an evolutionary continuum between both events. Herein, we describe Taichoute, a new fossil locality from the Fezouata Shale.

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the second most common type of infections, accounting for about 7 million annual visits to health-care providers. Pharmacists have an important role in counseling patients about this disease.

Objectives: The study explored the Lebanese pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes and counseling practices (KAP) around UTI.

We developed a method for the fast sorting and selection of mammalian cells expressing and secreting a protein at high levels. This procedure relies on cell capture using an automated microfluidic device handling antibody-coupled magnetic microparticles and on a timed release of the cells from the microparticles after capture. Using clinically compatible materials and procedures, we show that this approach is able to discriminate between cells that truly secrete high amounts of a protein from those that just display it at high levels on their surface without properly releasing it.

Purpose Of Review: Faster identification of infecting microorganisms and treatment options is a first-ranking priority in the infectious disease area, in order to prevent inappropriate treatment and overuse of broad-spectrum antibiotics. Standard bacterial identification is intrinsically time-consuming, and very recently there has been a burst in the number of commercially available nonphenotype-based techniques and in the documentation of a possible clinical impact of these techniques.

Recent Findings: Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) is now a standard diagnostic procedure on cultures and hold promises on spiked blood.

We present an original concept of manipulation of magnetic microbeads in a microchannel. It is based on the dynamic motion of a self-assembled structure of ferrimagnetic beads that are retained within a microfluidic flow using a local alternating magnetic field. The latter induces a rotational motion of the magnetic particles, thereby strongly enhancing the fluid perfusion through the magnetic structure that behaves as a dynamic random porous medium.

A bilateral sensorineural (perceptive) deafness occurred in a 12-year-old girl, following laparoscopic appendicectomy under general anaesthesia not comprising nitrous oxide and low insufflation pressures and a normal haemodynamic status. There was neither a personal nor a familial history of hearing disturbances nor a preoperative intake of ototoxic drugs. The initial loss of 50 dB has been substantiated by evoked auditive potentials.
