The recent COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges to post-secondary education, including that campuses have been closed, removing face-to-face instruction options. Meanwhile, this crisis has also presented unique opportunities to create a "tipping point" or conditions that foster innovative teaching practices. In light of such a "danger-opportunity," the feasibility of introducing microlearning (ML), a technology-mediated teaching and learning (T&L) strategy, has recently been revisited by some institutions.

Onychomycosis is most commonly caused by dermatophytes. In this study, we examined the spectrum of phenotypically non-dermatophyte and non-Aspergillus fungal isolates recovered over a 10-year period from nails of patients with onychomycosis in Hong Kong. A total of 24 non-duplicated isolates recovered from 24 patients were included.

Aims: Although the revolutionary matrix-assisted laser desorption ionisation time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has been evaluated for identification of various groups of bacteria, its application in bacteria that are 'difficult-to-identify' by phenotypic tests has been less well studied. We aim to evaluate the usefulness of MALDI-TOF MS for identification of 'difficult-to-identify' bacterial isolates.
Methods: We evaluated the performance of the Bruker MALDI-TOF MS system for a collection of 67 diverse clinically important bacterial isolates that were less commonly encountered, possessed ambiguous biochemical profiles or belonged to newly discovered species.
Catabacter hongkongensis is a recently described catalase-positive, motile, anaerobic, nonsporulating, Gram-positive coccobacillus that was first isolated from blood cultures of four patients from Hong Kong and Canada. Although DNA sequences representing C. hongkongensis have been detected in environmental sources, only one additional case of human infection has been reported, in France.

The cross-sectional shape of the stacked silicon nanowires (SiNWs) formed by the Bosch process and stress-limited oxidation is studied in this paper. Under the condition of high temperature oxidation, the resulting nanowires highly resemble the initial shapes resulting by the Bosch process. The effects of etching and passivation in the Bosch process are modeled to provide a guideline to control the cross-section of the stacked nanowires.

Here, it is demonstrated that the 3-deoxyanthocyanidins are more cytotoxic on human cancer cells than the 3-hydroxylated anthocyanidin analogues. At 200 microM concentration, luteolinidin reduced the viability of HL-60 and HepG2 cells by 90 and 50%, respectively.
