The volume of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for treatment of isolated aortic stenosis has far surpassed surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). There has been a consequent increase in TAVI explantation, now the fastest growing cardiac surgical procedure. Transcatheter heart valve explantation can be technically complex, with higher perioperative morbidity and mortality than routine SAVR or valve-in-valve TAVI.

A needs assessment in emergency medicine simulation has illustrated the importance of identifying research priorities in Canada. The design features and clinical outcomes of the Edwards SAPIEN S3 and Medtronic Evolut PRO+ are described and compared with highlight clinical circumstances where one may be favoured over the other.
Recent Findings: Multiple randomized and nonrandomized trials have compared commercial and investigational TAVR valves.
