Background: Anterior capsulotomy is one of the therapeutic options for refractory obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Safety and efficacy of Gamma Knife Capsulotomy (GKC) have been demonstrated in the past.

Objective: To characterize changes induced by GKC using a fixel-based analysis (FBA) and possible predictors of efficacy.

Objectives: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is one of the most effective treatments in mood disorders, mainly in major depressive episode (MDE) in the context of either unipolar (MDD) or bipolar disorder (BD). However, ECT remains a neglected and underused treatment. Older people are at high risk patients for the development of adverse drug reactions.

About 30% of patients with major depressive disorder have treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Recently, intranasal esketamine was approved as a treatment option after the failure of two antidepressant trials. We report a patient with multiresistant depression that was successfully and safely treated with esketamine nasal spray.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous research indicates that individuals with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) experience significant cognitive impairments, but the progression of these impairments based on treatment response has been understudied.
  • The study analyzed 131 TRD patients over a year to compare cognitive performance changes in those who responded to treatment versus those who did not.
  • Findings showed persistent cognitive impairments in both groups, but responders exhibited more significant improvements, suggesting the need for cognitive remediation to enhance their daily functioning post-treatment.

Background: Benzodiazepine long-term use (BLTU) is a public health challenge. We lack data on the consequences of LBTU on the trajectory of treatment-resistant depression (TRD).

Objective: To determine the prevalence of BLTU in a nationwide non-selected population of patients with TRD, to determine the rate of patients succeeding at withdrawing benzodiazepines at one year and to determine if persistent BLTU is associated with poorer mental health outcomes.

Parent history of severe mental illness (PHSMI) may have long-term consequences in adult offspring due to genetic and early environmental factors in preliminary studies. To compare the outcomes associated in subjects with PHSMI to those in patients without PHSMI. The participants with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders were recruited in the ongoing FACE-SZ cohort at a national level (10 expert centers) and evaluated with a 1-day-long standardized battery of clinician-rated scales and patient-reported outcomes.

The S-QoL 18 is a self-administered questionnaire that assesses quality of life (QoL) among individuals with schizophrenia. This study aims to validate the S-QoL 18 in bipolar and depressive disorders for a more widespread use in psychiatric settings. This study was conducted in a non-selected sample of individuals with bipolar and depressive disorders in the day hospital of a regional psychiatric academic hospital.

Background: In people with schizophrenia, major areas of everyday life are impaired, including independent living, productive activities, social relationships and overall quality of life. Enhanced understanding of factors that hinder real-life functioning is vital for treatments to translate into more positive outcomes.

Aim: The goal of the present study was to identify factors associated with motivation deficits in real-life schizophrenia, and to assess its contribution to impaired functioning and quality of life.

Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is a disabling psychiatric condition characterized by the failure of two antidepressants (ADs). Since the occurrence of side effects (SEs) appears to be one of the main determinants of early discontinuation of pharmacological treatments contributing to a pseudo-resistance, the purpose of this study was to determine the parameters associated with the occurrence of SEs under ADs in a cohort of patients with TRD. An observational, cross-sectional, multicentre study was carried out using data from the French network of Expert Centers for TRD.

Purpose: Peripheral inflammation is frequent in schizophrenia and could play a role in the pathophysiology, prognosis, and persistence of psychotic symptomatology under treatment. We seek to determine the relationship between peripheral inflammation and brain SPECT perfusion in stabilized antipsychotic-treated outpatients with schizophrenia, and to determine whether such perfusion changes are correlated with persistent symptoms.

Methods: Highly sensitive C-reactive protein blood level (hs-CRP) and brain SPECT perfusion were assessed in 137 stabilized outpatients with schizophrenia.

Background: Peripheral inflammation is associated with impaired prognosis in schizophrenia (SZ). Highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is the most used inflammatory biomarker in daily practice. However, no consensual cut-off has been determined to date to discriminate patients with peripheral inflammation from those without.

Introduction: We assessed the correlation between childhood maltreatment (CM) and severity of depression in an elderly unipolar Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) sample.

Methods: Patients were enrolled from a longitudinal cohort (FACE-DR) of the French Network of Expert TRD Centres.

Results: Our sample included 96 patients (33% of the overall cohort) aged 60 years or above, with a mean age of 67.

Psychiatric patients are at risk of hypovitaminosis D and Covid-19-related mortality. In addition to the mental health benefits, vitamin D supplementation may be potentially effective in preventing severe forms of Covid-19 infections. Vitamin D supplementation is not necessary and is not reimbursed in France for this indication.
