Objective: Our goal was to assess the efficacy and safety of intravenous (IV) secukinumab for the treatment of adults with active axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) in INVIGORATE-1.

Methods: INVIGORATE-1 (NCT04156620) was a randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, phase 3 trial in patients with active axSpA (either radiographic or nonradiographic). Patients were randomized one to one to receive IV secukinumab (6 mg/kg at baseline followed by 3 mg/kg every four weeks) or IV placebo for 16 weeks.

Purpose: Large language models (LLMs) are a form of artificial intelligence (AI) that uses deep learning techniques to understand, summarize and generate content. The potential benefits of LLMs in healthcare is predicted to be immense. The objective of this study was to examine the quality of patient information leaflets (PILs) produced by 3 LLMs on urological topics.

Growth and population structure of Lodoicea maldivica in natural stands in Seychelles.

We monitored leaf production in seedlings, trunkless juvenile, immature, and mature male and female plants of the dioecious palm, Lodoicea maldivica, and studied how internode length changed with trunk height. The fieldwork was conducted in closed forest on Praslin Island and degraded forest on Curieuse Island. Data on numbers of leaves produced and rates of leaf production were used to estimate plant age.

Occurrence and potential hazard posed by pharmaceutically active compounds in coastal waters in Cape Town, South Africa.

The occurrence of 58 pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) in surface water at 28 coastal and five river sites, and in two stormwater flows in Cape Town, South Africa, was investigated in winter and summer. After accounting for quality assurance and control data, 33 PhACs were considered in detail. In winter, 25 PhACs were found at one or more sites and 27 in summer.

Objectives: Emergency medicine (EM) doctors are often required to manage a diverse set of complex challenges; navigating direct patient care, systemic issues and inter-professional interactions. Leadership is well recognised as crucial in optimising both the delivery and the quality of patient care. Electrochemical immunomagnetic assay for interleukin-6 detection in human plasma.

An electrochemical immunoassay for interleukin-6 (IL-6) was developed based on IL-6 capture using magnetic beads and electrochemical signal production using horseradish peroxidase/tetramethylbenzidine. We achieved IL-6 detection from the 50-1000 pg mL range, which is a physiologically relevant IL-6 range for a variety of biological systems. The sandwich assay performed well in phosphate buffered solution as well as in cellular media and human plasma spiked with IL-6, and decreased time to IL-6 concentration readout to approximately one hour.

For people who seek help for self-harm, emergency departments (ED) are often the first point of contact, making them a suitable setting for intervention. In Australia, base rates of self-harm presentations to ED are increasing, while the quality of care these people receive is often considered sub-optimal. This study used qualitative interviews to explore potential barriers ED staff face in delivering best possible self-harm care.

Embolic necrosuppurative pneumonia in domestic cats induced by a novel species.

Three cats, aged 2 to 11 years, presented to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory over a 3-year period following euthanasia or death due to respiratory distress. Thoracic radiographs revealed nodular, soft tissue opacities throughout the lung fields in all cases. On postmortem examination, approximately 60% to 80% of the lung parenchyma were expanded by multifocal to coalescing, well-demarcated, beige, semi-firm nodules.

Exploding Head Syndrome: A Systematic Scoping Review.

Exploding head syndrome (EHS) has historically been viewed as a disorder predominantly affecting older people and being more common in females. Through a comprehensive review of data since 2005, this scoping review provides updated evidence from 4082 participants reporting EHS across a variety of study designs on: how EHS presents; key information on comorbidity and correlates of EHS; how EHS is experienced in terms of symptoms and beliefs; causal theories arising from the research reviewed; and evidence-based information on how research has reported on the management of EHS. Since 2005, EHS has attracted increasing research interest; however, there are significant gaps in the research that are hindering a better understanding of EHS that might be helpful for clinicians.

Patients' Emotional Talk During Surveillance Cystoscopy for Non-muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer: Opportunities for Improving Communication.

Objective: To examine the emotional communication that takes place between patients and health care providers during surveillance cystoscopy for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).

Methods: Participants were 57 patients with a diagnosis of NMIBC attending for surveillance cystoscopy and 10 health care professionals (HCPs). Cystoscopy procedures were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim.

Electroencephalography source imaging (ESI) is a valuable tool in clinical evaluation for epilepsy patients but is underutilized in part due to sensitivity to anatomical modeling errors. Accurate localization of scalp electrodes is instrumental to ESI, but existing localization devices are expensive and not portable. As a result, electrode localization challenges further impede access to ESI, particularly in inpatient and intensive care settings.

Epidermal Inclusion Cyst Formation: Late Complication of Carpal Tunnel Release.

 Epidermal inclusion cysts (EIC) are epidermally lined, keratin containing cysts which occur when keratinizing epithelium becomes imbedded in deeper subcutaneous tissue, usually following penetrating trauma, or, rarely, surgery. We describe a case of an EIC presenting as a late complication following open carpal tunnel release (CTR).  A 64-year-old woman with a history of left open CTR 17 years prior presented to our institution with unprovoked left palmar pain, swelling, and fluctuance.
