Evolution of the Dubai health authority's residency training program: A 25-year review, challenges and outcomes.

Background: The Dubai Residency Training Program (DRTP) is a structured postgraduate educational training program started on 1992 to improve healthcare in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through education and training; align doctors' training in the UAE with internationally recognized standards; deliver educational best practice; and achieve a balance between clinical service delivery and continuing professional development. The aim of this paper is to review the experiences, challenges and outcomes of the DRTP over the last 25 years.

Methods: All documentation relating to the DRTP was reviewed and reevaluated.

Feminisation of UK General Practice: a challenge for the Defence Medical Services?

Background: The Defence Medical Services (DMS) primarily recruits its trained General Practitioners (GPs) from the NHS and since 1970, the number of men entering medicine has doubled whereas the number of women has increased 10-fold; female GPs will outnumber their male counterparts by 2017. This study performs a quantitative assessment of the potential impact of feminisation of UK General Practice upon the DMS recruitment and workforce planning.

Methods: General Medial Council General Practice Certificate of Completion of Training (GMC GP CCT) data were analysed to identify any change in the percentage of male and female GP Specialty Training Registrars successfully completing GP vocational training between 2007 and 2012, thus becoming potentially recruitable into the DMS as independent GPs.

Do shock absorbing insoles in recruits undertaking high levels of physical activity reduce lower limb injury? A randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: To assess the benefits, if any, of the use of shock absorbing insoles in reducing lower limb injury among Air Force recruits, and to assess the differences, if any, in the efficacy of two commonly available shock absorbing insoles.

Design: Randomized controlled trial.
