Background: Among patients with suspected severe aortic stenosis (AS), Doppler echocardiographic (DE) data are often discordant, and further analysis is required for accurate diagnosis and optimal management. In this study, an automated matrix-based approach was applied to an echocardiographic database of patients with AS that identified 5 discrete echocardiographic data patterns, 1 concordant and 4 discordant, each reflecting a particular pathophysiology/measurement error that guides further workup and management.
Methods: A primary/discovery cohort of consecutive echocardiographic studies with at least 1 DE parameter of severe AS and analogous data from an independent secondary/validation cohort were retrospectively analyzed.

To determine the relationship between pacing method and hemodynamic outcome, we used Doppler echocardiographic methods to evaluate left ventricular (LV) hemodynamics after AV nodal ablation and either HBP, BVP, or RVAP.
Method: 20 patients were evaluated > 6 months after AV nodal ablation, 10 each with chronic HBP or BVP, and all with RVAP lead.
A 60-year-old female presented with dyspnea and chest pressure. Clinical presentation, laboratory data, echocardiography, and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging findings confirmed diagnosis of eosinophilic myocarditis and obviated unnecessary invasive endomyocardial biopsy. She was treated with oral steroid and oral anticoagulation.

Aim: To evaluate whether there is a threshold sensitization level beyond which benefits of chronic steroid maintenance (CSM) emerge.
Methods: Using Organ Procurement and Transplant Network/United Network of Organ Sharing database, we compared the adjusted graft and patient survivals for CSM vs early steroid withdrawal (ESW) among patients who underwent deceased-donor kidney (DDK) transplantation from 2000 to 2008 who were stratified by peak-panel reactive antibody (peak-PRA) titers (0%-30%, 31%-60% and > 60%). All patients received perioperative induction therapy and maintenance immunosuppression based on calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF).

Background: Recent research on nanoparticles in a number of crops has evidenced for enhanced germination and seedling growth, physiological activities including photosynthetic activity and nitrogen metabolism, mRNA expression and protein level, and also positive changes in gene expression indicating their potential use in crop improvement. We used a medicinally rich vegetable crop, bitter melon, as a model to evaluate the effects of seed treatment with a carbon-based nanoparticle, fullerol [C60(OH)20], on yield of plant biomass and fruit characters, and phytomedicine contents in fruits.
Results: We confirmed the uptake, translocation and accumulation of fullerol through bright field imaging and Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy.
Objectives: Antibody-mediated rejection after kidney transplant is less responsive to conventional antirejection therapies. The proteasome inhibitor bortezomib has activity against mature plasma cells that produce damaging donor-specific antibodies. We present our experience of using a bortezomib-based regimen in patients with severe antibody-mediated rejection.

Methods: We analyzed urine cystatin C (CyC) in a prospective multicenter observational cohort study of deceased-donor kidney transplants to determine its peritransplant excretion pattern, utility for predicting delayed graft function (DGF) and association with 3-month graft function. Serial urine samples were collected for 2 days following transplant and analyzed blindly for CyC.
