A 67-year-old former gold miner with rheumatoid arthritis, treated with steroids and methotrexate, presented to eye casualty with a painful right eye. Examination revealed an anterior uveitis and despite an initial response to topical steroids, the intraocular inflammation worsened with anterior and posterior uveitis development. Re-examination showed a white mass in the peripheral nasal retina initially suspected of being active Toxoplasmosis infection and anti-toxoplasmosis treatment commenced.

Purpose: To investigate the causes of nonphysiologic behavior of the SRK/T formula, assess their clinical significance, and develop and evaluate solutions.
Setting: Two NHS ophthalmology departments, United Kingdom, and a private practice, United States.
Design: Evaluation of technology.
Purpose: Choroidal colobomas represent failure of closure of the fetal fissure during embryogenesis. Eyes with colobomas can develop complex retinal detachments. We present a case of a patient presenting with a macular hole in her only useful eye with an extramacular choroidal coloboma.

This study suggested an association between subtenons lidocaine administration at the conclusion of surgery and a reduction of pain in the immediate postoperative period. As a result of this pilot study we performed a full-scale prospective, randomized controlled trial to fully evaluate the efficacy of this intervention.

Purpose: To evaluate the incidence, management, and long-term outcomes of unexpected posterior capsule rupture during injection of a C11UB plate-haptic silicone intraocular lens (IOL) with the Passport II system (both Bausch & Lomb Surgical).
Setting: Tertiary referral center and teaching hospital.
Methods: This retrospective analysis comprised 24 cases of posterior capsule rupture during plate-haptic silicone IOL injection.
Purpose: To describe the presenting features, histopathology, and surgical outcome in a group of patients with rapidly progressive macular pucker.
Design: Retrospective interventional noncomparative case series.
Participants: Five patients.
Purpose: To determine whether retinal detachment (RD) after neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) laser posterior capsulotomy is due to a greater incidence of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) than in controls and whether vitreous status at the time of capsulotomy is useful in predicting the risk for RD.
Setting: Teaching hospital ophthalmology service.
Methods: Patients having Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy after uneventful cataract surgery (treatment group) were prospectively studied.
Background: Ophthalmologists are now encouraged to perform strabismus surgery as an outpatient procedure, but postoperative pain may be a barrier to discharge. Systemic analgesics have side effects or are contraindicated in some patients. We designed a trial to determine the efficacy of subtenons lidocaine injection at reducing postoperative pain and systemic analgesia requirements.
