Objective: To evaluate the output of a child eye health programme in terms of identification, referral, and volume of paediatric cataract surgeries in Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective review of the North-West Nigeria Child Eye Health Initiative programme referral registers at primary, secondary and tertiary hospitals in Kaduna State. Theatre registers of children 0-16 years who had cataract surgery at National Eye Centre Kaduna between 2016 and 2019 were also reviewed.

Non-Ti MXenes: new biocompatible and biodegradable candidates for biomedical applications.

MXenes are a class of two-dimensional nanomaterials with the general formula MXT, where M denotes a transition metal, X denotes either carbon or nitrogen and T refers to surface terminations, such as -OH, -O, -F or -Cl. The unique properties of MXenes, including their tunable surface chemistry and high surface area-to-volume ratio, make them promising candidates for various biomedical applications, such as targeted drug delivery, photothermal therapy and so on. Among the family of MXenes, titanium (Ti)-based MXenes, especially TiCT, have been extensively explored for biomedical applications.

Intra-oral food processing, including chewing, is important for safe swallowing and efficient nutrient assimilation across tetrapods. Gape cycles in tetrapod chewing consist of four phases (fast open and -close, and slow open and -close), with processing mainly occurring during slow close. Basal aquatic-feeding vertebrates also process food intraorally, but whether their chew cycles are partitioned into distinct phases, and how rhythmic their chewing is, remains unknown.

In the context of climate change, the chemical composition of wines is characterized by a massive drop of malic acid concentration in grape berries. Then wine professionals have to find out physical and/or microbiological solutions to manage wine acidity. The aim of this study is to develop wine Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains able to produce significant amount of malic acid during the alcoholic fermentation.

Incidence and risk factors of prolonged grief in relatives of patients with terminal cancer in French palliative care units: The Fami-Life multicenter cohort study.
