Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic threatened standard hospital operations. We sought to understand how this stress was perceived and manifested within individual hospitals and in relation to local viral activity.
Design: Prospective weekly hospital stress survey, November 2020-June 2022.
Asthma self-management can improve symptom control, but adherence to established self-management behaviors is often poor. With adult asthma uncontrolled in over 60% of U.S.

Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is shown in nonclinical studies to upregulate surfactant production, inhibit cytokine synthesis, prevent cytopathy, and block replication of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus in pulmonary cells. The study aims to determine whether Aviptadil (synthetic VIP) can improve survival and recovery in patients with COVID-19 respiratory failure compared with placebo and demonstrate biological effects in such patients.

Renal artery thrombosis is the leading cause of infarction. Apart from traditional risk factors for thrombosis, emerging SARS-CoV-2 predisposes patients to thrombotic diseases both in arterial and venous vasculatures.

The risk factors for severe presentations are concentrated in patients with chronic kidney disease, particularly patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) who are dialysis dependent. We report the first US case of a 56-year-old nondiabetic male with ESRD secondary to IgA nephropathy undergoing thrice-weekly maintenance hemodialysis for 3 years, who developed COVID-19 infection.

Studies of discrete cell populations in sputum can enhance measurements compared with whole sputum in which changes in rare cells and cell-cell interactions can be masked.
Objective: We sought to enrich for sputum-derived human bronchial epithelial cells (sHBECs) and sputum-derived myeloid type 1 dendritic cells (sDCs) to describe transcriptional coexpression of targets associated with a type 2 immune response.
Unlabelled: A relational database has been developed based on the results from the application of the DynDom program to a number of proteins for which multiple X-ray conformers are available. The database is populated via a web-based tool that allows visitors to the website to run the DynDom program server-side by selecting pairs of X-ray conformers by Protein Data Bank code and chain identifier.
Availability: The website can be found at: http://www.
In the past, most mechanistic studies of ionizing radiation response have employed very large doses, then extrapolated the results down to doses relevant to human exposure. It is becoming increasingly apparent, however, that this does not give an accurate or complete picture of the effects of most environmental exposures, which tend to be of low dose and protracted over time. We have initiated direct studies of low dose exposures, and using the relatively responsive ML-1 cell line, have shown that changes in gene expression can be triggered by doses of gamma-rays of 10 cGy and less in human cells.
