LC-MS/MS-Based Quantification Method of Polyphenols for Valorization of Ancient Apple Cultivars from Cilento.

Safeguarding the biodiversity of plant species is of fundamental importance for their defense against pests and diseases even through the maintenance and dissemination of ancient agricultural traditions rooted within the small rural environments. The investigation area of the current research covered some municipalities belonging to the "Parco Nazionale del Cilento e Vallo di Diano" including the sub-mountainous part of "Comunità Montana del Vallo di Diano (Salerno, Campania)". Fifteen ancient apple varieties were collected from local communities to be analyzed and compared to some commercially available apples.

Conservation and genetic characterisation of common bean landraces from Cilento region (southern Italy): high differentiation in spite of low genetic diversity.

Since its introduction from Central-South America to Italy almost 500 years ago, the common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was largely cultivated across the peninsula in hundreds of different landraces. However, globalisation and technological modernisation of agricultural practices in the last decades promoted the cultivation of few varieties at the expense of traditional and local agro-ecotypes, which have been confined to local markets or have completely disappeared.

Traditional plant use in the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, Campania, Southern, Italy.

Aim Of Study: This paper reports an ethobotanical survey of the traditional uses of medicinal and useful plants in an area of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, Campania, Southern Italy.

Materials And Methods: This study conducted between 2009 and 2011, gathered information on the medicinal plants traditionally used in Southern Italy (Campania Region). In all, we interviewed 70 key informants, whose age ranged between 50 and 85 years.
