Introduction: Traumatic spinal root injury caused by shoulder dislocation may involve the brachial plexus or, in some cases, a single nerve. The degree of severity of the injury depends on many patient-specific factors as well as the mechanism of injury. It is essential to suspect this type of lesion by means of a thorough physical examination in order to have better patient outcomes.

The injection of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring biopolymer, is a common cosmetic procedure. Despite their efficacy and growing adaptation by the medical community, HA fillers occasionally give rise to adverse events. Adverse events from HA fillers range from temporary, such as edema and erythema, to more long-term effects, including granulomas or, in rare cases, sequelae from vascular occlusion.

Barbed Suture versus Conventional Suture for Vaginal Cuff Closure in Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy: Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

Study Objective: To determine the surgical time, suture time, presence of postoperative dyspareunia, and complications that occur after closing the vaginal cuff with a barbed suture compared with conventional suture.

Scleroderma in the Caribbean: characteristics in a Dominican case series.

Introduction: Scleroderma is a rare disease with limited data in Latin America. Preliminary genetic studies suggest a strong African ascendance in the Dominican Republic, which could modulate the expression of the disease. The objective of this study is to describe the clinical and demographic characteristics of scleroderma in a series of 26 Dominican patients.

Transversus abdominis plane block after ambulatory total laparoscopic hysterectomy: randomized controlled trial.

The proper diagnosis of sciatic hernias has allowed to surgeons treating successfully patients with acute or chronic pelvic pain, with intestinal or ureteral obstruction and with urinary or gluteus sepsis. It has to be considered as differential diagnosis before the finding of a congenital or acquired gluteus mass.

Venous ulcer fibroblasts have been demonstrated to have low growth rates in response to platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) is an important signal transduction mechanism that regulates growth, differentiation, and apoptosis in eukaryotic cells. PDGF binds PDGF receptors that activate a multitiered signaling cascade involving MAPK.

Proliferative capacity of venous ulcer wound fibroblasts in the presence of platelet-derived growth factor.

Growth factors have been demonstrated to increase the proliferation of wound fibroblasts. Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent cell mitogen. However, the role of PDGF in chronic venous ulcers is inconclusive.
