This study aimed to assess the impact of saline irrigation and its correlation with noninvasively obtained ICP waveform changes.
Methods: Patients undergoing FESS between January 2019 and November 2020 were included.
Objectives: To analyze bone mineral content (BMC) and area bone mineral density (aBMD) accrual in adolescent male footballers who started their first football season.
Methods: 17 athletes (14.8 ± 0.

The near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)-derived reperfusion rate of tissue oxygen saturation (slope 2 StO) may provide a surrogate measure of vascular function, however, this has yet to be examined in a paediatric population. This study investigated in adolescents: 1) the between-day reliability of NIRS-derived measurements; 2) the relationship between slope 2 StO and macro- (flow-mediated dilation, FMD) and microvascular (peak reactive hyperaemia, PRH) function; and 3) the effect of high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) on slope 2 StO, FMD, and PRH. Nineteen boys (13.

Understanding CSI and ICP correlation might modify irrigation pump usage. This study aimed to evaluate invasive ICP during interlaminar FESS; correlate ICP with irrigation pump parameters (IPPs); evaluate ICP during saline outflow occlusion, commonly used to control bleeding and improve the surgeon's view; and, after durotomy, simulate accidental dural tear.

We herein present a case series of five patients treated at a tertiary care hospital. A comprehensive literature review was also carried out.

Background: A new generation of modified surface flow diverters (FDs) and monotherapy using new antiplatelets may reduce both ischemic and hemorrhagic complications during the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Previous preliminary safety analysis of distal unruptured intracranial aneurysms treated with the FD p48 MW HPC (phenox-Wallaby, Bochum, Germany) under antiplatelet monotherapy with prasugrel showed promising results. However, the long term outcomes of distal intracranial aneurysms treated with FDs under antiplatelet monotherapy are not known.

High-quality and comprehensive epidemiological studies about TBI in this population are limited worldwide, specifically in Latin America. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the epidemiology of TBI among children in Brazil and its effects on the public health system.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: Individuals with TBI are at risk of intracranial hypertension (ICH), and monitoring of intracranial pressure (ICP) is usually indicated. However, despite many new noninvasive devices, none is sufficiently accurate and effective for application in clinical practice, particularly in the management of TBIs. This study aimed to compare the noninvasive Brain4Care system (nICP) with invasive ICP (iICP) curve parameters in their ability to predict ICH and functional prognosis in severe TBI.

Methods: An online survey was distributed to pediatric neurosurgeons in Latin America to assess aspects of pediatric neurosurgical education, working conditions, and training opportunities. The survey was open to neurosurgeons that treat pediatric patients, whether or not they had completed fellowship training in pediatrics.
New Findings: What is the central question of this study? What is the effect of 4 weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and 2 weeks of detraining on vascular function and traditional cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in male adolescents? What is the main finding and its importance? Four weeks of HIIT improved macrovascular function in adolescents. However, this training period did not measurably change microvascular function, body composition or blood biomarkers. Following 2 weeks of detraining, the improvement in flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) was lost.

The prototypical bitemporal hemianopia upon visual field testing can easily suggest chiasmal compression due to sellar/suprasellar involvement. However, because of the complexity of the decussation of fibres at the optic chiasm and the presence of anatomical variants, unpredictable visual fields defects can be detected in chiasmal diseases.

Despite its overall good prognosis, complete surgical resection is sometimes unfeasible, especially for patients with deep-seated tumors. For these patients, the identification of targetable genetic alterations such as NTRK fusions, raised as a new hope for therapy.

The aim was to evaluate the performance of briquettes as a source of thermal energy, mitigating the risks of the current elimination and reducing the operational costs of their destination. To know the oxidizing characteristics of the briquettes and their mechanical resistance, superior calorific power, ash content, volatile materials, fixed carbon, and resistance to axial compression were evaluated.

In this study, bacterial strains isolated from aquatic environments were bioprospected to determine their probiotic profile and antimicrobial effect against fish and food pathogens. Two isolates, identified via 16S rRNA sequencing as Lactococcus lactis (L1 and L2) and one as Enterococcus faecium 135 (EF), produced a bacteriocin-like antimicrobial substance (BLIS), active against Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella Choleraesuis and Salmonella Typhimurium.
