Infiltration of peripheral immune cells into the brain following neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI) contributes to increased neuroinflammation and brain injury. However, the specific roles of different immune cell types in neonatal brain injury remain poorly understood. Although existing evidence suggests a potential role for sexual dimorphism in HI outcomes, this aspect has been insufficiently investigated.

Neonatal hypoxia-ischemia (HI) is one of the main causes of mortality and long-term disabilities in newborns, and the only clinical approach to treat this condition is therapeutic hypothermia, which shows some limitations. Thus, putative neuroprotective agents have been tested in animal models of HI. Lactate is a preferential metabolic substrate of the neonatal brain and has already been shown to produce beneficial neuroprotective outcomes in neonatal animals exposed to HI.

This work evaluated the influence of vitamin A on performance, organ weight, and bone and skin characteristics in broilers (Cobb 500) at 21 and 42 days of age. A total of 1920 chickens were distributed in a randomised design, considering six vitamin A supplementation levels (0, 6000, 16,000, 26,000, 36,000, and 46,000 IU kg ), with 16 replicates and 20 chickens per experimental unit, established due to rising the range of vitamin levels observed in the literature to evaluate the effect of vitamin A on broilers. At 22 days, half of the replicates from each treatment continued receiving the initial diet, and the other eight repetitions received diets without vitamin A (0 IU kg ) until 42 days.

In this work, we report anstudy of the structural and thermodynamic properties of two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDC) alloys, MoW(S, Se, Te), using the cluster expansion framework to compute the Helmholtz free energy of alloys as a function of alloy composition and temperature, in the framework of the generalized quasi-chemical approximation. We consider alloying only on the metal sublayer. Our results indicate a weak dependence of the structural properties (lattice constants, nearest-neighbor bond lengths, and layer width) on the alloy composition (i.

Article Synopsis
  • Two experiments evaluated the digestibility and growth performance of New Zealand White rabbits fed diets containing corn distillers' dried grains with solubles (DDGS).
  • The first trial focused on digestibility, showing that DDGS had high protein (74.10%) and lipid (81.51%) digestibility, along with significant digestible energy (2979 kcal/kg).
  • The second trial assessed growth performance, revealing that increasing DDGS levels led to a linear decrease in feed intake and feed conversion ratio, while the highest level (240 g/kg) resulted in lower carcass yield compared to the control group.

Article Synopsis
  • A study assessed the chemical composition and energy values of dry brewery residue (DBR) in broiler diets, finding that higher inclusions of DBR positively influenced metabolizable energy values.
  • A second experiment explored how varying the amount of DBR in broiler diets affected growth performance and health metrics, showing improved weight gain and feed intake without negatively affecting overall health indicators.
  • The results concluded that including up to 100 g/kg of DBR in broiler diets enhances growth during the starter phase while maintaining healthy production parameters.

Despite substantial morbidity and mortality, no therapeutic agents exist for treatment of dengue or Zika, and the currently available dengue vaccine is only recommended for dengue virus (DENV)-immune individuals. Thus, development of therapeutic and/or preventive drugs is urgently needed. DENV and Zika virus (ZIKV) nonstructural protein 1 (NS1) can directly trigger endothelial barrier dysfunction and induce inflammatory responses, contributing to vascular leak in vivo.

In this work, we explain the origin and the mechanism responsible for the strong enhancement of the Raman signal of sulfur chains encapsulated by single-wall carbon nanotubes by running resonance Raman measurements in a wide range of excitation energies for two nanotube samples with different diameter distributions. The Raman signal associated with the vibrational modes of the sulfur chain is observed when it is confined by small-diameter metallic nanotubes. Moreover, a strong enhancement of the Raman signal is observed for excitation energies corresponding to the formation of excited nanotube-chain-hybrid electronic states.
