Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is an iatrogenic complication of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. Its features are excessive growth of the ovaries and leakage of fluid from the intravascular space with ascites, hypovolemia and electrolyte imbalance, inducing a state of hypercoagulability, which can cause arterial or venous thrombosis. Thromboembolic events are the less common complications but they are the most serious.
