A case of peripheral calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor, clear cell variant, located on the right gingival maxilla of a 48-year-old woman, presenting as a 2.0-cm solitary, firm nodule was studied. Microscopically, it was composed of polyhedral and clear epithelial cells associated with amyloid-like deposition.

There are few studies on pediatric oral pathologies in the literature. This study presents data from a review of 2,356 biopsies of young patients (birth to 14 years) received over 15 years (1985-2000) in the Oral Pathology Service at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Information about patients (sex, age, race) and histopathological diagnosis was retrieved.

The present study assessed the susceptibility of Candida albicans strains, collected from HIV-positive patients with oral candidiasis, to a commercial 20% ethanol propolis extract (EPE) and compare it to the inhibitory action of the standardized antifungal agents nystatin (NYS), clotrimazole (CL), econazole (EC), and fluconazole (FL). Twelve C. albicans strains collected from HIV-positive patients with oral candidiasis were tested.

Background: Studies have addressed the relevance of c-Jun and c-Fos proteins in cancer development. In the present study, the expression of c-Jun and c-Fos, the major components of transcription factor activator protein (AP1), were evaluated to determine possible alterations to these factors in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Methods: Fifteen cases of normal oral mucosa and 20 cases of OSCC were retrieved from the Archives of the Surgical Pathology Service at the University of São Paulo.
