GPCR-based fluorescent sensors are widely used to correlate neuromodulatory signaling with brain function. While experiments in transfected cells often reveal selectivity for individual neurotransmitters, sensor specificity in the brain frequently remains uncertain. Pursuing experiments in brain slices and in vivo, we find that norepinephrine and dopamine cross-activate the respective sensors.

Differentially methylated regions (DMRs) can be used as head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic targets in precision medicine workflows. DNA from 21 HNSCC and 10 healthy oral tissue samples was hybridized to a genome-wide tiling array to identify DMRs in a discovery cohort. Downstream analyses identified differences in promoter DNA methylation patterns in oral, laryngeal and oropharyngeal anatomical regions associated with tumor differentiation, nodal involvement and survival.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated central nervous system (CNS) disease characterized by demyelination resulting from oligodendrocyte loss and inflammation. Cuprizone (CPZ) administration experimentally replicates MS pattern-III lesions, generating an inflammatory response through microgliosis and astrogliosis. Potentially remyelinating agents include oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) with a specific immunomodulatory sequence consisting of the active motif PyNTTTTGT.

This study investigates the accumulation and degradation of aroma molecules released by acid hydrolysis of aroma precursors in winemaking grapes. A first-order kinetics model effectively interprets this accumulation, including subsequent degradation. Experimentation at three temperatures categorizes specific grape-derived aroma molecules into three stability-based groups: labile molecules from labile precursors, stable molecules from labile precursors, and stable molecules from stable precursors.

Tracheal stenosis (TS) is an iatrogenic sequela after intubation or tracheostomy that is increasing despite technological improvement and skilled respiratory care in the ICU. According to the studies, the rate of TS varies from 10 to 22%, but only 1-2% of these stenoses are severe and present with inspiratory dyspnea that does not respond to medical management. Bronchoscopy is considered the most appropriate diagnostic test, and laser surgery and tracheobronchial stenting are the most commonly performed procedures for tracheal stenosis.

Persistent air leaks (PALs) are associated with prolonged hospital stays, contamination and sustained infection of the pleural space, and significant morbidity. A fistulous tract between the alveoli and the pleural space is referred to as an alveolar-pleural fistula (APF), whereas a fistulous tract between the bronchiole and the pleural space is referred to as a bronchopleural fistula (BPF). There is no consensus on the treatment, and multiple modalities exist for the management of persistent air leak (PAL).

The overuse of fossil-based resources to produce thermoplastic materials and rubbers is dramatically affecting the environment, reflected in its clearest way as global warming. As a way of reducing this, multiple efforts are being undertaken including the use of more sustainable alternatives, for instance, those of natural origin as the main feedstock alternative, therefore having a lower carbon footprint. Contributing to this goal, the synthesis of bio-based rubbers based on β-myrcene and -β-farnesene was addressed in this work.

The detailed mechanisms by which dopamine (DA) and serotonin (5-HT) act in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) to influence motivated behaviors in distinct ways remain largely unknown. Here, we examined whether DA and 5-HT selectively modulate excitatory synaptic transmission in NAc medium spiny neurons in an input-specific manner. DA reduced excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) generated by paraventricular thalamus (PVT) inputs but not by ventral hippocampus (vHip), basolateral amygdala (BLA), or medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) inputs.
