Despite the importance of Arachnida, few proteins originating from these organisms have been characterized in terms of their structure. Here we present a detailed analysis of Arachnida proteins that have their experimental structures determined and deposited to the Protein Data Bank (PDB).

Urban vectors of Chagas disease in the American continent: A systematic review of epidemiological surveys.

Background: Chagas is a complex and multidimensional socio-environmental health phenomenon, in which different components converge and interact. Historically, this disease was associated with insect vectors found in the rural environment. However, in the Americas, we are currently facing a new paradigm, in which different scenarios allow maintaining the vectorial transmission of the parasite through triatomine populations that either occasionally enter the dwellings or colonize urban environments.

Lanthanide(III) Ions and 5-Methylisophthalate Ligand Based Coordination Polymers: An Insight into Their Photoluminescence Emission and Chemosensing for Nitroaromatic Molecules.

The work presented herein reports on the synthesis, structural and physico-chemical characterization, luminescence properties and luminescent sensing activity of a family of isostructural coordination polymers (CPs) with the general formula [Ln(μ-5Meip)(DMF)] (where Ln(III) = Sm (), Eu (), Gd (), Tb () and Yb () and 5Meip = 5-methylisophthalate, DMF = N,N-dimethylmethanamide). Crystal structures consist of 3D frameworks tailored by the linkage between infinite lanthanide(III)-carboxylate rods by means of the tetradentate 5Meip ligands. Photoluminescence measurements in solid state at variable temperatures reveal the best-in-class properties based on the capacity of the 5Meip ligand to provide efficient energy transfers to the lanthanide(III) ions, which brings intense emissions in both the visible and near-infrared (NIR) regions.

Validation of Reference Genes in a Population of Blueberry Plants Regenerated in Colchicine.

For the first time we report the validation of reference genes in plants from a population of blueberry () clones cultured in vitro on a colchicine-supplemented medium. Nodal segment explants of the cultivar Duke were regenerated by organogenesis under different periods of colchicine 1 mg/L exposure (1, 2, 3, 5, 30 days). The clones selected for the study showed variability for phenotypic traits after 2 years of adaptation to field conditions, compared to plants of the donor genotype that were regenerated on a medium without colchicine.

Climate screens are typically used inside glass greenhouses to improve control of humidity and temperature, and thus reduce energy expenditure. Shade nets are more appropriate to use, either with or without polyethylene cladding, at locations less-reliant on climate control, but where protection against hail, wind and excessive solar radiation might be needed. In addition, insect screens and nets can be employed to hinder insect pests and other invertebrates entering either type of production environment, and to keep invertebrates used in pest management contained inside.

An aggressive non-small cell lung cancer in nonsmokers: A case report of an unusual presentation of micropapillary lung adenocarcinoma.

We describe a case of an unusual fast growing lung micropapillary-predominant adenocarcinoma in a nonsmoker male patient without pre-existing lung disease. Adenocarcinomas have been described to be slow growing tumors, however our patient presented a fast-growing rate over a period of 21 days. When the patient failed broad spectrum antibiotic coverage, malignancy became part of the differential diagnosis.

Liquid-Liquid Interfacial Electron Transfer from Ferrocene to Gold(III): An Ultrasimple and Ultrafast Gold Nanoparticle Synthesis in Water under Ambient Conditions.

Ferrocene (Fc) in ether reduces HAuCl4 in water within seconds under ambient conditions in air upon stirring, forming ferricinium chloride stabilized water-soluble 20 nm gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) that are redispersible in the presence of poly(N-vinylmethylpyrrolidone) or NaBH4 + thiol. After reduction with NaBH4 yielding Fc and 26 nm sodium poly(hydroxyborate) stabilized AuNPs, the core size no longer changes following reactions with thiols providing (RS)nAuNPs.
