The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of a long-acting recombinant human FSH (rhFSH, corifollitropin-alpha) to induce ovarian stimulation in Nelore breed (Bos indicus) calves and prepubertal heifers prior to ovum pick-up (OPU) for in vitro embryo production (IVEP). In Experiment 1, a dose-response trial was performed to determine the optimal dose of rhFSH, which was determined to be 10 μg. In Experiment 2, 6-7 mo old calves were randomly allocated to receive rhFSH either via sc (n = 5) or im (n = 5).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the superestimulatory and superovulatory responses of cattle treated with corifollitropin-alpha, a long-acting human recombinant FSH (rhFSH). In the first and second experiments, we used Nelore (Bos indicus) heifers previously submitted to follicular wave suppression by active immunization against GnRH. In Experiment 1 (a dose-response study), heifers (n = 20) were randomly allocated into five groups, which received placebo (saline) or a single sc dose of 7.

Delayed initiation of effective antifibrotic therapy in patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILD) may influence the progression and outcome of the disease. This study analyzes the differences in the journey of patients with ILD in the Brazilian and Mexican health systems. An evaluative study was conducted in reference centers for interstitial lung diseases in Brazil and Mexico with a panel of four specialists.

However, their accuracy in suggesting diagnoses remains controversial and needs to be explored. We aimed to evaluate and compare the diagnostic accuracy of two free accessible internet search tools: Google and ChatGPT 3.

The mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is essential for orchestrating innate immune cell defense including cytokine production and is dysregulated in severe Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) individuals. The individual genetic background might play a role in the exacerbated immune response.

Methods: Two experiments were performed, the first to evaluate effects on semen, and the second on -oocyte complexes (COC) and on IVEP. Nelore () bulls ( = 14) or heifers ( = 16) were allocated into control (CG) or treatment (DIF) groups.
Purpose: To identify systemic and/or ophthalmologic predictors of proliferative sickle retinopathy.
Methods: Cross-sectional study comparing clinical, laboratory, and structural choriorretinal aspects between sickle cell disease patients with and without proliferative retinopathy. Patients underwent complete systemic and ophthalmologic evaluation.
Objective: To evaluate handgrip strength (HGS) as a diagnostic tool for frailty risk in elderly patients with asthma, as well as to investigate the prevalence of frailty in this population.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study including 96 patients ≥ 60 years of age diagnosed with moderate to severe asthma and treated at a tertiary referral center in Brazil. We measured HGS using a calibrated hydraulic hand dynamometer.
Identifying individuals and factors associated with severe cases of COVID-19 is crucial as the pandemic continues to spread globally. Effective biomarkers for predicting severe cases are essential for optimizing clinical management, therapy, and preventing unfavorable outcomes. This exploratory observational study aimed to investigate the expression of dysregulated immune response genes (ARG1, NOS2, ITGA4, and SELPLG) in total leukocytes, plasmatic levels of P-selectin and PSGL-1, and their clinical associations in patients with mild and severe COVID-19.

Thus, this review was conducted to identify the primary prevention methods of dental caries in adults to improve oral health at the clinical and community levels.
Methods: This review followed the PICO strategy with the research question: "What are the methods of primary prevention of dental caries, in adults, for improving and maintaining oral health integrating clinical and community-based strategies?" Electronic screening was carried out by two independent reviewers in five databases (MedLine/PubMed, SciELO, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and LILACS) to find relevant publications between 2015-2022.
Crotalus venom has broad biological activity, including neurotoxic, myotoxic, hematologic, and cytotoxic compounds that induce severe systemic repercussions. We evaluated the pathophysiological and clinical significance of (Cdc) venom-induced pulmonary impairment in mice. We conducted a randomized experimental study, involving 72 animals intraperitoneally inoculated with saline solution in the control group (CG), as well as venom in the experimental group (EG).

The spectrum of clinical presentations is wide, ranging from asymptomatic cases to a severe acute respiratory syndrome, sometimes with multiple systems involvement. Viral infections, including those related to respiratory virus, may cause hearing loss and, by extent, considering its pathophysiology, tinnitus.

The purpose of this study was to characterize the reproductive physiology, oocyte competence, and chromatin compaction in Nelore calves in the early-prepubertal period (EPP) and the intermediate-prepubertal period (IPP). Calves aged 2-5 (EPP) and 8-11 months old (IPP) were assigned to Trial 1 (morpho-physiological-endocrine evaluations, n = 8) or Trial 2 (oocyte donors, n = 8) vs. the respective control groups of cows (n = 8, each).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFrailty assessment has been identified as critical approach in chronic respiratory diseases with substantial impact in the health status and functionality in later life. Aging modifies the immune response leading to a chronic pro-inflammatory state and increased susceptibility to airway infections. Since epigenetic changes, airway epithelium dysfunction and inflammatory cytokine activity seem to be more pronounced in the immunosenescence, elderly asthmatics are at higher risk of poor clinical outcomes.

Maternal nutrition is critical in mammalian development, influencing the epigenetic reprogramming of gametes, embryos, and fetal programming. We evaluated the effects of different levels of sulfur (S) and cobalt (Co) in the maternal diet throughout the pre- and periconceptional periods on the biochemical and reproductive parameters of the donors and the DNA methylome of the progeny in Bos indicus cattle. The low-S/Co group differed from the control with respect to homocysteine, folic acid, B12, insulin growth factor 1, and glucose.

Aim: To analyze tinnitus features according to caffeine consumption levels.
Introduction: Previous studies have shown that the attention given to tinnitus can be a determinant of tinnitus severity. Some of these studies have shown changes in the amplitude and/or latency parameters of the event-related auditory potentials (ERPs). One of the tools previously employed to investigate an individual's attention is the Event Related Potential (ERP), which reflects the amount of attention from the patient to the provided auditory stimuli.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSevere asthma is a multifactorial disorder with marked phenotypic heterogeneity and complex interactions between genetics and environmental risk factors, which could, at least in part, explain why during standard pharmacologic treatment, many patients remain poorly controlled and at an increased risk of airway remodeling and disease progression. The concept of "precision medicine" to better suit individual unique needs is an emerging trend in the management of chronic respiratory diseases. Over the past few years, Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) have revealed novel pharmacogenetic variants related to responses to inhaled corticosteroids and the clinical efficacy of bronchodilators.

As for hypertension, chronic pain, epilepsy and other disorders with particular symptoms, a commonly accepted and unambiguous definition provides a common ground for researchers and clinicians to study and treat the problem. The WHO's ICD11 definition only mentions tinnitus as a nonspecific symptom of a hearing disorder, but not as a clinical entity in its own right, and the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-V doesn't mention tinnitus at all. Here we propose that the tinnitus without and with associated suffering should be differentiated by distinct terms: "Tinnitus" for the former and "Tinnitus Disorder" for the latter.
