The discharge from pig farms presents significant challenges to the environment and human health, specifically regarding the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Fermentation bed culture has emerged as an increasingly popular and environmentally friendly pig farming model in China, as it minimizes the release of harmful substances into the environment. However, there remains a limited understanding of the occurrence and dynamics of microbiome and antibiotic resistome in fermentation bed culture.

The co-existence of microplastics (MPs) and antibiotics in the coastal environment poses a combined ecological risk. Single toxic effects of MPs or antibiotics on aquatic organisms have been verified, however, the exploration of their combined toxic effects remains limited. Here, foodborne polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs, 10 μm, 0.

The practice of utilizing animal manures on land is widespread in agriculture, but it has raised concerns about the possible spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and the potential risk it poses to public health through food production. Fermentation bed culture is an effective circular agricultural practice commonly utilized in pig farming that minimizes the environmental impact of livestock farming. However, this method generates a significant amount of fermentation bed waste (FBW), which can be turned into organic fertilizer for land application.

Exchange of mobile functional genes within microbiota benefits the microbial community. However, the status of the mobile gene pool in environment is still largely unclear, impeding the understanding on the process of gene transfer in natural microbial communities. The release of extracellular vesicles (EVs) by diverse organisms has been proposed to be a vital way in the complex networks of interactions between microbes and their habitats.

The interaction of nanoplastics (NPls) and engineered nanoparticles (ENPs) with organic matter and environmental pollutants is particularly important. Therefore, their behavior should be investigated under the different salinity conditions, mimicking rivers and coastal environments, to understand this phenomenon in those areas. In this work, we analyzed the elementary characteristics of polystyrene-PS (unmodified surface and modified with amino or carboxyl groups) and titanium dioxide-TiO2 nanoparticles.

There is a rising concern that air pollution plays an important role in the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the results were not consistent on the association between air pollution and the spread of COVID-19. In the study, air pollution data and the confirmed cases of COVID-19 were both gathered from five severe cities across three countries in South America.

Due to the significant economic and ecological value, the increasing pollution threat to estuarine and coastal regions is of great concern. Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are emerging pollutants which possess adverse ecological risk. In this review, we have compiled the data on the levels of PFAAs in environmental samples, mainly in estuarine and coastal zones.

Small extracellular vesicles (sEV) are small lipid bilayer particles released by cells. sEV have been shown to play critical roles in intercellular communication. Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), widely used as plasticizers, has been detected in the environment and human beings.

The role of meteorological factors in the transmission of the COVID-19 still needs to be determined. In this study, the daily new cases of the eight severely affected regions in four countries of South America and their corresponding meteorological data (average temperature, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, average wind speed, visibility, absolute humidity) were collected. Daily number of confirmed and incubative cases, as well as time-dependent reproductive number (R) was calculated to indicate the transmission of the diseases in the population.

Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are widely detected in the environment, especially in estuarine and coastal areas where fluctuation of salinity occurs. Salinity alteration affected the distribution of PFAAs and even the bioaccumulation in organisms. However, the inner mechanism is still unclear.
