Neuropathic pain resulting from spinal cord injury (SCI) is a significant secondary health issue affecting around 60% of individuals with SCI. After SCI, activation of microglia, the immune cells within the central nervous system, leads to neuroinflammation by producing pro-inflammatory cytokines and affects neuropathic pain. This interplay between inflammation and pain contributes to the persistent and intense pain experienced by many individuals with SCI.

Aim: To evaluate the role of regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs) in the presence or absence of the synthetic ligand Pam3Cys during the progression of periapical lesion in wild-type (WT) and toll-like receptor 2 knockout (TLR2KO) mice.

Methodology: A total of 130 C57BL/6 male WT and TLR2KO mice were allocated into control (n = 5) and experimental (periapical lesion induction) (n = 10) groups. In specific groups (WT+Pam3cys and TLR2KO+Pam3cys), the synthetic ligand Pam3cys was administered intraperitoneally every 7 days, according to the experimental period (14, 21 and 42 days).

Approximately 69% of 299,000 Americans with spinal cord injury (SCI) suffer debilitating chronic neuropathic pain, which is intractable to treatment. The aim of this study is to determine feasibility, as the primary objective, and estimates of efficacy of a remotely delivered Qigong intervention in adults with SCI-related neuropathic pain, as the secondary objective. We recruited adults with SCI-related neuropathic pain, with SCI ≥3 months, with complete or incomplete SCI, and highest neuropathic pain level of >3 on the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), using nationwide volunteer sampling.

Obesity-associated morbidity is exacerbated by abdominal obesity, which can be measured as the waist-to-hip ratio adjusted for the body mass index (WHRadjBMI). Here we identify genes associated with obesity and WHRadjBMI and characterize allele-sensitive enhancers that are predicted to regulate WHRadjBMI genes in women. We found that several waist-to-hip ratio-associated variants map within primate-specific Alu retrotransposons harboring a DNA motif associated with adipocyte differentiation.

Background: Peroxiredoxin activated in M-CSF stimulated monocytes (PAMM) is a novel protein produced by adipocytes with putative redox regulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Sorting nexin 10 (Snx10) is a member of the sorting nexin family of proteins that plays crucial roles in cargo sorting in the endosomal pathway by its binding to phosphoinositide(3)phosphate (PI3P) localized in early endosomes. We and others have shown previously that the gene encoding sorting Snx10 is required for osteoclast morphogenesis and function, as osteoclasts from humans and mice lacking functional Snx10 are dysfunctional.
