Patients with peripheral artery disease and generalized atherosclerosis are at high risk of cardiovascular and limb complications, affecting both quality of life and longevity. Lower limb atherosclerotic disease is associated with high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and adequate management is founded on treatments involving patient-dependent factors, such as lifestyle changes, and physician-dependent factors, such as clinical treatment, endovascular treatment, or conventional surgery. Medical management of peripheral artery disease is multifaceted, and its most important elements are reduction of cholesterol level, antithrombotic therapy, control of arterial blood pressure, control of diabetes, and smoking cessation.

This manuscript presents a new report on the in vitro antimicrobial photo-inactivation of foodborne microorganisms (Salmonella spp. and Listeria monocytogenes) using tetra-cationic porphyrins. Magnetic skyrmions are nontrivial spin textures that resist external perturbations, being promising candidates for the next-generation recording devices. Nevertheless, a major challenge in realizing skyrmion-based devices is the stabilization of ordered arrays of these spin textures under ambient conditions and zero applied field. Here, we demonstrate for the first time the formation and stabilization of magnetic skyrmions on the arrays of self-assembled hexagonal nanodomes taking advantage of the intrinsic properties of its curved geometry.

The assessment of river water pollution trends is affected by the seasonal variation of river conditions, the variability of pollution sources, the heterogeneity of pollutants distribution, the representativeness/uncertainty of sampling, and the uncertainty of sample analysis. This work presents a methodology to model the uncertainty of river water sampling based on available information about the spatial distribution of the studied parameter in the river. The uncertainty from "single sampling" (SS) or by production of a composite sample by mixing m subsamples collected randomly (RS) or in a line that crosses the sampling circle (LS) was studied.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of LED therapy associated with compression therapy on chronic venous leg ulcers (CVUs). The study included CVU patients (n = 17, eight men) who were eligible for Unna's boot treatment. Ulcers were treated on a weekly basis with either LED therapy (625 nm, 4 J/cm(2)) and an Unna's boot (LED ulcers, n = 14) or a placebo treatment and an Unna's boot (control ulcers, n = 14).
