Objective: To analyze in-hospital and 1-year morbidity and mortality associated with acute gastrointestinal dysfunction in critically ill patients with COVID-19 via a prespecified scoring system.

Methods: Between March and July 2020, consecutive hospitalized patients with COVID-19 from a single institution were retrospectively analyzed by medical chart review. Only those who remained in the intensive care unit for more than 24 hours were included.

Objective: Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin are advocated as potential treatments for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) despite the lack of supportive clinical evidence. In this study, outcomes associated with Hydroxychloroquine and/or Ivermectin were determined in a series of patients with confirmed COVID-19 from a single institution in Brazil.

Methods: Consecutive patients admitted between March and July 2020 were retrospectively analyzed and divided into four treatment categories: no treatment (Group 0), Ivermectin only (Group I), Hydroxychloroquine only (Group II), and Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin (Group III).

An ultrasonic reactor (UR) was developed and coupled to a digital movie-based flow-batch analyzer (DM-FBA) for the ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE) and fast determination of catalase and lipase activities in bovine and poultry livers. The lab-made UR mainly consisted of a borosilicate glass container and a piezoelectric disc. The DM-FBA mainly consisted of a webcam, an ultrasonic actuator controller, a peristaltic pump, six solenoid valves, a valve driver, a mixing chamber, a magnetic stirrer, an Arduino Mega 2560, and a personal computer.

Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) has been associated with potentially life threatening cardiovascular complications, including fulminant myocarditis and cardiac tamponade. Optimal management strategies are still unclear, including the role of immunomodulatory therapies and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the context of cardiogenic shock. We report a case of a middle-aged female with COVID-19 who developed respiratory distress and hemodynamic deterioration with elevated troponin levels on the seventh day of symptoms.

This study proposes the use of digital movies (DMs) in a flow-batch analyzer (FBA) to perform automatic, fast and accurate titrations. The term used for this process is "Digital movie-based on automatic titrations" (DMB-AT). A webcam records the DM during the addition of the titrant to the mixing chamber (MC).

Objective: To describe an experimental, unprecedented model that mimics the abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS).

Methods: twenty rats were randomly divided into four groups. To simulate ACS intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) was induced by inserting cotton surgical dressing (Zobec ®), 15x15cm (intra-abdominal pressure constant and equal to 12 mmHg) associated with hypovolemia induced by withdrawing blood, keeping mean arterial pressure (MAP) around 60 mmHg (HYPO).

A flow-injection biamperometric method for determination of pantoprazole (PTZ) in pharmaceutical tablets is reported for the first time. The reversible redox couples Fe3+/Fe2+, Fe(CN)6(3-)/Fe(CN)6(4-), Ce4+/Ce3+, VO3(-)NO2+, and I2/I- were tested as indicating redox systems for biamperometric determination of PTZ in a flow-injection assembly with optimized flow parameters. The best results were obtained using V03(-)NO2+, which showed to be a selective and sensitive biamperometric indicating system for PTZ even in the presence of excipients and antioxidants that typically are found in drugs.
