During the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, local public health agencies were responsible for vaccinating a wide variety of communities. Dakota County Public Health (Dakota County, Minnesota) implemented a program that offered COVID-19 vaccines in a variety of settings, such as county public health buildings, community sites, in-home, mass vaccination clinics, and a mobile clinic unit. Pharyngeal cleft cysts (also called branchial cleft cysts) are rare congenital defects of the pharynx region that appear as soft, fluctuant cystic structures on the ventral neck. These cysts are formed by anomalous regression of the pharyngeal clefts during embryonic development and are lined by pseudostratified columnar to squamous, partially ciliated epithelium on histopathology. Development of these cysts is sporadic, with no currently identified risk factors in veterinary species.

There is no recommendation regarding the type of induction therapy to use in ABO-incompatible (ABOi) kidney transplantation. The aim of this retrospective study was to compare the outcome of ABOi living donor kidney transplant (LDKT) recipients who received either polyclonal antibodies or anti-interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) blockers as an induction agent. Laryngotracheal trauma may result in lifelong complications or even death if diagnosis or treatment is delayed. Emergency department physicians, trauma surgeons, anesthesiologists, and especially thoracic surgeons should maintain a high level of awareness of and suspicion for laryngotracheal trauma whenever a patient present with multiple trauma in general or with cervical-thoracic trauma in particular. A blunt or penetrating laryngotracheal injury can result in acute airway obstruction and death at the scene of an accident or crime.

The effect of a preadmission videotape presentation on patient satisfaction in an outpatient surgery department was explored in this research study. A sample of 141 Caucasian and Hispanic patients took part in the study. Results indicated that patients who viewed the preadmission patient videotape did not differ significantly in their report of satisfaction from those who did not view the videotape.

Alloimmunization following multiple transfusions, a frequently observed complication in sickle cell anemia patients, may make subsequent transfusion attempts extremely hazardous. The case of a young woman with sickle-cell anemia is reported; she was hospitalized for the treatment of extensive invalidating leg ulcers. The transfusion program that was initiated as a prerequisite to skin allografts had to be stopped, due to rapid occurrence of multiple alloimmunization.
