Postabdominoplasty Scar Improvement after a Single Session with an Automated 1210-nm Laser.

Unlabelled: Abdominoplasty, one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures, aims at correcting excess abdominal skin and fat, but generates a long abdominal scar. The efficacy of an automated portative 1210-nm laser in improving the appearance of surgical scars has been previously demonstrated in a double-blind randomized controlled trial. The purpose of this work was to document the use of this laser in real-life practice.

Background And Objectives: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are life-threatening drug reactions considered to be part of a single spectrum disease.

Aim: The aim of this work is to describe the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of the complex SJS/TEN in a reference University Hospital.

Guidelines for the management of partial-thickness burns in a general hospital or community setting--recommendations of a European working party.

Most partial-thickness burns in Europe and the United States are managed by non-burns specialists who do not treat burns on a regular basis. To achieve better patient outcomes, partial-thickness burns should be properly managed in non-specialist centres and referred to burn units when appropriate. Although some guidelines have been published to assist non-specialists, few have attempted to provide a comprehensive step-by-step guidance emphasising wound-healing principles.

Scalds in van drivers.

This report concerns 16 cases of patients admitted to our burns unit, between May 1997 and June 2003, for burns caused by the explosion of the heating system in their vehicles. In 15 of these cases, the vehicle in question was the same; the Renault Express van (P < 0.0001 in a Poisson test).
