Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) provokes pain, muscle weakness, and consequent impairment in activities of daily living. On the other hand, adherence to exercise training (ET) is associated with the attenuation of the impairments. The aims of the present study were to a) investigate adherence to ET in older adults with KOA diagnosed attending public service; and b) to analyze the physical function of the older adults with KOA who did not adhere to the ET in public service.

The characterization of these susceptible phases, such as preconception, gestation, lactation and adolescence, and the understanding of factors that influence the risk of an adult individual for developing obesity, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, is the focus of the DOHaD (Developmental Origins of Health and Disease) research line. In this sense, advancements in molecular biology techniques have contributed significantly to the understanding of the mechanisms underlying the observed phenotypes, their morphological and physiological alterations, having as a main driving factor the epigenetic modifications and their consequent modulation of gene expression.

Pericardial effusion can present various differential diagnoses, and among these, malignancy is an important yet less frequently encountered cause. A heightened level of suspicion is crucial for establishing an accurate diagnosis, particularly when the patient's clinical course deviates from the anticipated trajectory.

This is a complex experience for families due to the ongoing threat and vulnerability caused by the emergence of an illness, and therefore several studies have tended to focus on the adaptation of parent caregivers. The aim of the present study is to present a psychological experience assessment protocol of parents in PPC.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate cytology diagnosis accuracy using adjuvant methods in clinical routine for oral cancer.
Study Design: This prospective study was conducted on 98 patients with clinically potentially malignant or malignant oral cavity lesions. One oral lesion smear was taken from each patient using a cytobrush before biopsy and stored at PreservCyt Thinprep.
Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1α (PGC-1α) transcriptional coactivators are key regulators of energy metabolism-related genes and are expressed in energy-demanding tissues. There are several PGC-1α variants with different biological functions in different tissues. The brain is one of the tissues where the role of PGC-1α isoforms remains less explored.

In the last two decades, following pVAPA, two host-associated virulence plasmid types of R. equi have been discovered: a circular plasmid, pVAPB, associated with porcine isolates in 1995, and a recently detected linear plasmid, pVAPN, related to bovine and caprine isolates.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFCurrently, tissue engineering has been dedicated to the development of 3D structures through bioprinting techniques that aim to obtain personalized, dynamic, and complex hydrogel 3D structures. Among the different materials used for the fabrication of such structures, proteins and polysaccharides are the main biological compounds (biopolymers) selected for the bioink formulation. These biomaterials obtained from natural sources are commonly compatible with tissues and cells (biocompatibility), friendly with biological digestion processes (biodegradability), and provide specific macromolecular structural and mechanical properties (biomimicry).

Method: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach, carried out with seven nurses on duty in the medical and gynecology/obstetrics clinics of a university hospital in the Midwest region of the country. The data was processed using IRaMuTeQ software and analyzed using Content Analysis.
Objectives: Previous studies show that the distal transradial approach (dTRA) is safe and effective for coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. However, the effect of dTRA on radiation exposure in the catheterization laboratory has not been characterized. The authors analyzed the available literature to compare the radiation exposure associated with dTRA vs the traditional radial approach (TRA).

Introduction: Children grow up spending most of their time within the family social environment, where they can experience stressful situations such as marital conflict, a non-cohesive environment, parental alcohol use disorder, parental depression, and other parental mental health issues. All these factors are associated with children's developmental delays.
Objective: We aimed to conduct a scoping review on family stress and family resilience associated with child development delays to examine familial conditions associated with child development.
Objective: We sought to examine the association between chronic Benzodiazepine (BZD) use and brain metabolism obtained from 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) in the MEMENTO clinical cohort of nondemented older adults with an isolated memory complaint or mild cognitive impairment at baseline.
Methods: Our analysis focused on 3 levels: (1) the global mean brain standardized uptake value (SUVR), (2) the Alzheimer's disease (AD)-specific regions of interest (ROIs), and (3) the ratio of total SUVR on the brain and different anatomical ROIs. Cerebral metabolism was obtained from 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-D-glucose-FDG-PET and compared between chronic BZD users and nonusers using multiple linear regressions adjusted for age, sex, education, APOE ε 4 copy number, cognitive and neuropsychiatric assessments, history of major depressive episodes and antidepressant use.
Fungi exhibit three adverse effects on human health: inflammatory, allergic and toxic effects, these implications affect mainly immunodepressed patients. The objective of this work was to analyze the fungal microbiota of the ambient air of an Intensive Care Unit. Three collections were carried out in an Intensive Care Unit in the city of Rio Branco, Acre, Western Amazon, Brazil from March to May 2017.

This study determined the power (mW), spectral radiant power (mW/nm), and beam profile of different LCUs through various thicknesses and shades of a CAD-CAM resin composite (BRAVA Block, FGM). Five thicknesses: 0.

Male Wistar rats were randomly assigned into two groups: rats fed standard chow (NF) and rats fed a HF from postnatal 30-day-old (PND30) until PND60. Then, both groups were fed a standard chow from PND60 until PND120.

Little is known of how diagnosis is communicated to patients and families. The FIRENDO network was created by the third French Plan for Rare Diseases, to promote autonomy, care and research on rare endocrine diseases.

Introduction: When it comes to disease modeling, countless models are available for Lysosomal Storage Diseases (LSD). Historically, two major approaches are well-established: in vitro assessments are performed in patient fibroblasts, while in vivo pre-clinical studies are performed in mouse models. Still, both platforms have a series of drawbacks.

Search and rescue teams and Antarctic research groups use protective cold-water anti-exposure suits (AES) when cruising on Zodiacs. Extremity tourniquet (ET) self-application (SA) donned with AESs has not been previously studied. Our study therefore assessed the SA of 5 commercial ETs (CAT, OMNA, RATS, RMT, and SWAT-T) among 15 volunteers who donned these suits.
