Feasibility and Acceptability of a Theater-Based HIV Prevention Workshop Developed by and for LGBTQ Youth.

Background: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth may have limited exposure to sexuality education programming that is affirming of their identities and unique experiences.
Objective: To develop and evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a theater-based HIV prevention workshop for LGBTQ youth.
Methods: The 3-hour-long workshop (piloted 2014-2015; n = 20 LGBTQ youth, 14-22 years old) consisted of instruction in HIV risk and prevention, humorous role plays, and analysis of HIV prevention strategies using a forum theater format.
We compared two community-based HIV testing models among fisherfolk in Lake Victoria, Uganda. From May to July 2015, 1364 fisherfolk residents of one island were offered (and 822 received) home-based testing, and 344 fisherfolk on another island were offered testing during eight community mobilization events (outreach event-based testing). Of 207 home-based testing clients identified as HIV-positive (15% of residents), 82 were newly diagnosed, of whom 31 (38%) linked to care within 3 months.

Systematic thematic analysis of semistructured interviews with overweight children and their parents was performed. The majority of participants self-identified as racial/ethnic minorities and were Medicaid eligible.
