To evaluate how well an inexpensive portable three-lead ECG monitor PEM identified patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) compared to a normal 12-lead ECG. Cross-sectional method comparison study. From April 2014 to February 2015, we included patients coming to the general practice clinic "Lægerne Sløjfen", Aalborg, Denmark for a routine ECG.

Epidemiologic Pattern of Fatal Traffic Injuries among Iranian Drivers; 2004-2010.

Background: Due to their specific nature, such as high incidence, high intensity and direct involvement of all members of society, traffic injuries are of particular importance. Through a mega data, this study investigated the epidemiological aspects and depict current situation of road traffic injuries in Iran.

Methods: Using legal medicine and traffic police data, deaths from road traffic injuries in men were predicted through determining the most appropriate model for death using time series statistical models; and then most important human factors associated with it in a period of 6 yr in Iran was analyzed using multi-nominal regression model.

An integrative review exploring decision-making factors influencing mental health nurses in the use of restraint.

Unlabelled: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: There is emerging evidence highlighting the counter therapeutic impact of the use of restraint and promoting the minimization of this practice in mental health care. Mental health nurses are often the professional group using restraint and understanding factors influencing their decision-making becomes critical. To date, there are no other published papers that have undertaken a similar broad search to review this topic.

Regional differences in referral, procedures, and outcome after ablation for atrial fibrillation in Europe: a report from the Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Pilot Registry of the European Society of Cardiology.

Aims: Ablation is an effective treatment of symptomatic and drug refractory atrial fibrillation (AF). Using data from the European AF Ablation Pilot Registry comprising 1410 patients from 10 European countries, we prospectively investigated regional differences in AF ablation regarding patient selection, ablation strategy, and outcome.

Methods And Results: Countries were divided into three regions: South (Greece, Italy, Spain), East (Czech Republic, Poland), and West/North (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, and the Netherlands).

Objectives: Lectin-like low density lipoprotein receptor (LOX-1) has pivot role in vascular complications, which is upregulated in numerous pathological conditions. Since exercise has beneficial effects in prevention of hyperlipidemic complications, present study examined protective effects of aerobic exercise through reduction of LOX-1 expression in heart during dyslipidemia.

Background: Overexpression of lectin-like low density lipoprotein (LOX-1) receptor plays an important role in hyperglycemia-induced vascular complications such as atherosclerosis. Based on the beneficial effects of exercise on preventing cardiovascular complications of diabetes, we aimed to examine the protective effects of aerobic exercise on expression of LOX-1 receptor and production of free radicals in the heart of diabetic rats.

Methods: Four groups of rats were used: (n = 5 per group): sedentary normal, trained normal, sedentary diabetes and trained diabetes.

Association between the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation and aspects of health status: a Danish cross-sectional study.

Background: Caring for patients living with atrial fibrillation (AF) is expected to be an increasing challenge for the healthcare sector in the future. Inconclusive results on self-reported health-related quality of life and health status in patients living with AF have previously been reported, ranging from being similar to those observed in patients who have sustained and survived a myocardial infarction to not being different from those of healthy subjects. In these studies, gender differences were not taken into account.

Aims: Pacing lead electrical delays and strict left bundle branch block (LBBB) criteria were assessed against cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) outcome.

Methods: Forty-nine patients with LBBB and QRS duration >130 milliseconds underwent CRT-implantation. Sensed right ventricular to left ventricular electrical delay (RV-LV-IED) was measured.

Atrial flutter and thromboembolic risk: a systematic review.

Atrial flutter confers a thromboembolic risk, but contrary to atrial fibrillation the relationship has only been addressed in few studies. This study performs an up to date systematic review of the literature to investigate the association between atrial flutter and thromboembolic events. Articles were found by MEDLINE, EMBASE search and a manual search of references list in included articles.

Radiotherapy in patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators: a literature review.

An increasing number of patients with implantable cardiac rhythm devices undergo radiotherapy (RT) for cancer and are thereby exposed to the risk of device failure. Current safety recommendations seem to have limitations by not accounting for the risk of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators malfunctioning at low radiation doses. Besides scant knowledge about optimal safety measures, only little is known about the exact prevalence of patients with devices undergoing RT.

Angiogenic gene expression and vascular density are reflected in ultrasonographic features of synovitis in early Rheumatoid Arthritis: an observational study.

Introduction: Neovascularization contributes to the development of sustained synovial inflammation in the early stages of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Ultrasound (US) provides an indirect method of assessing synovial blood flow and has been shown to correlate with clinical disease activity in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. This study examines the relationship of US determined synovitis with synovial vascularity, angiogenic/lymphangiogenic factors and cellular mediators of inflammation in a cohort of patients with early Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) patients prior to therapeutic intervention with disease modifying therapy or corticosteroids.

The effect of two educational methods on knowledge and adherence to treatment in hemodialysis patients: clinical trial.

Risk of device malfunction in cancer patients with implantable cardiac device undergoing radiotherapy: a population-based cohort study.

Background: Pacemakers (PMs) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) may develop malfunction during external beam radiotherapy (RT). We aimed to describe clinical practice in PM/ICD patients undergoing RT and to assess the rate and predictors of device malfunctions.

Methods: We reviewed medical records of all PM/ICD patients undergoing RT at four centers in Western Denmark during 2003-2012.

Rare cause of ventricular tachycardia: Pheochromocytoma.

Pheochromocytoma is known from a wide range of clinical manifestations and can mimic other disorders which can lead to delay in diagnosis. We report a case of a young female presenting with chest pain, electrocardiographic changes, and episodes of ventricular tachycardia, finally diagnosed with this catecholamine-producing tumor. < Pheochromocytoma is a rare catecholamine-producing tumor that can pose a diagnostic challenge due to its multiple manifestations mimicking various conditions, including cardiovascular disorders.

Why can hydrogen sulfide permeate cell membranes?

The high membrane permeability of H2S was studied using polarizable molecular dynamics simulations of a DPPC lipid bilayer. The solubility-diffusion model predicts permeability coefficients of H2S and H2O that are in good agreement with experiment. The computed diffusion coefficient profile shows H2S to diffuse at a lower rate than H2O, but the barrier for H2S permeation on the Gibbs energy profile is negligible.

The quantum mechanical (QM)/molecular mechanical (MM) interface between Chemistry at HARvard Molecular Mechanics (CHARMM) and TURBOMOLE is described. CHARMM provides an extensive set of simulation algorithms, like molecular dynamics (MD) and free energy perturbation, and support for mature nonpolarizable and Drude polarizable force fields. TURBOMOLE provides fast QM calculations using density functional theory or wave function methods and excited state properties.

Groin hematoma after electrophysiological procedures-incidence and predisposing factors.

Objectives: We evaluated the incidence and predisposing factors of groin hematomas after electrophysiological (EP) procedures.

Design: Prospective, observational study, enrolling consecutive patients after EP procedures (Atrial fibrillation: n = 151; Supraventricular tachycardia/Diagnostic EP: n = 82; Ventricular tachycardia: n = 18). Patients underwent manual compression for 10 min and 3 h post procedural bed rest.

Current influenza vaccines are believed to confer protection against a narrow range of virus strains. The identification of broadly influenza neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) has triggered efforts to develop vaccines providing 'universal' protection against influenza. Several bnAbs were isolated from humans recently vaccinated with conventional influenza vaccines, suggesting that such vaccines could, in principle, be broadly protective.

[Cardioversion of atrial fibrillation].

Restoration of sinus rhythm should be considered in patients with atrial fibrillation. Prior to cardioversion, each patient must be assessed individually. In haemodynamically unstable patients due to atrial fibrillation, acute DC cardioversion should be performed.
