Article Synopsis
  • Neuropsychological studies indicate that anxiety and depression symptoms are common in patients with lifestyle disorders, but their effects on movement are not well understood.
  • This study explores how high fat diet, chronodisruption, and their combination impact locomotor function by examining changes in cerebellar gene expression and signaling pathways.
  • Results show significant deficits in locomotor ability across all experimental groups, along with notable inflammation and damage to Purkinje cells in the cerebellum, highlighting the relationship between cerebellar function, movement, and certain genetic pathways.

Chronic consumption of a high-calorie diet coupled with an altered sleep-wake cycle causes disruption of circadian clock that can impact the gut microbiome leading to metabolic syndrome and associated diseases. Herein, we investigate the effects of a high fat high fructose diet (H) alone or in combination with photoperiodic shifts induced chronodisruption (CD) on gut microbiota of C57BL/6J male mice. Further, the merits of daily evening intraperitoneal administration of melatonin in restoring gut microbiota are studied herein.
