Ultrasonic fatigue testing is an increasingly used method to study the high cycle fatigue (HCF) and very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) properties of materials. Specimens are cycled at an ultrasonic frequency, which leads to a drastic reduction of testing times. This work focused on summarising the current understanding, based on literature data and original work, whether and how fatigue properties measured with ultrasonic and conventional equipment are comparable.

Dairy slurry is used commonly as an animal-sourced fertilizer in agronomic production. However, residual effects of slurry application on intake and digestibility of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) silage from subsequent harvests are not well known.

Coproduct feedstuffs offer a unique and potentially profitable avenue for cattle feeding strategies. However, research is lacking in the evaluation of varying coproducts on ruminal fermentation and digestive characteristics when included as the major component of the diet of cows. Our objective was to determine the effect of coproduct feedstuffs as a forage replacement on digestive and fermentative characteristics of cows.

Bermudagrass ( L.) is a familiar forage in the equine industry and teff () is gaining popularity as well. However, it is unclear if the application of poultry litter as a fertilizer affects palatability of these forages in horses.

It has long been known that solute segregation at crystalline defects can have profound effects on material properties. Nevertheless, quantifying the extent of solute segregation at nanoscale defects has proven challenging due to experimental limitations. A combined experimental and first-principles approach has been used to study solute segregation at extended intermetallic phases ranging from 4 to 35 atomic layers in thickness.

Background: The effect of time of fecal sampling on the accuracy of acid-detergent insoluble ash (ADIA) and alkaline-peroxide lignin (APL) for the prediction of fecal output (FO) in cattle was evaluated. Eight ruminally cannulated cows (594 ± 35.5 kg) were allocated randomly to 4 bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.

A new amino acid solution (Aminopäd 5% and Aminopäd 10%) was used for intravenous feeding of 240 preterm and term newborn infants in 4 hospitals. Indications, dosages and infusion sites were up to the policies of the 4 hospitals. Plasma amino acid concentrations were measured in 491 samples which were obtained during steady 24 h infusions of the daily doses.

Maternal convulsions and severe fetal bradycardia resulted from the accidental intravascular injection of 0.5% bupivacaine for epidural anesthesia in preparation for caesarean section. Ventilation with oxygen, application of anticonvulsive drugs, relaxation and intubation was promptly performed followed by immediate caesarean section.

52 patients were followed up out of a total of 87 children with sacrococcygeal teratomas, within a period of 25 years, from three paediatric surgery hospitals and out of altogether 73 survivors. The results in 35 children where the operation had been performed more than three years ago, were classified as "late results". From this group, 18 children were followed up by clinical examination only, without detecting any dysfunctions.
