Mutational spectrum of cystic fibrosis patients from Córdoba province and its zone of influence: implications of molecular diagnosis in Argentina.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is an autosomal recessive disorder affecting 1/2000-4000 newborns in Caucasian populations. This lethal disease mainly affects respiratory and digestive organs as well as fertility in man. So far, the CF prevalence and mutational spectrum have showed specificity among populations and regions, making it necessary to establish them in each one.

Cow's milk stimulated lymphocyte proliferation and TNFalpha secretion in hypersensitivity to cow's milk protein.

Although there is no reliable single laboratory test available for the diagnosis of cow's milk allergy, if an allergic mechanism is suspected, a number of laboratory studies may be useful in delineating specific proteins responsible for these disorders. In the current study we analyzed in vitro lymphocyte proliferation assays, specific secretion of TNFalpha in supernatant cultures and specific IgE, IgG, and IgA in a group of patients with hypersensitivity to cow's milk antigens. The stimulation index against a cow's milk antigen mixture, alpha-lactalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin, and casein was significant higher in the group of patients maintained on cow's milk-free diet for less than 4 months compared with the values observed in the control group and in the group of patients without a close contact to cow's milk proteins.

Cystic fibrosis: frequency of delta f508 and g542x mutations in Cordoba, Argentina.

Using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) based techniques we analyzed the frequency and genotypic distribution of two mutations (delta F508 and G542X) that produce Cystic Fibrosis. The study was carried out in 19 non-related patients (38 chromosomes) born in the Province of Córdoba. The distribution of genotypes showed the presence of 8 homozygote patients delta F508/delta F508, 2 individuals with non-determined mutations (X/X) and 9 compound heterozygotes (delta F508/X).

[Nimesulide in the treatment of postoperative pain in minor orthopedic surgery].

The study assesses the effect of Nimesulide in the treatment of post-operative pain in minor orthopedic surgery. Twenty-five patients who had received regional peridural or subarachnoid anesthesia were included in the study. After a variable interval of 60 to 90 minutes, the average level of pain, evaluated using a "pain score", was considerably reduced.
