Introduction: Nephrolithiasis is a chronic condition with 5 to 10-year recurrence rates as high as 50%. Stone recurrence can be reduced by implementing American Urological Association kidney stone medical management guidelines, which recommend additional metabolic testing for high risk, recurrent and interested first-time stone formers. However, clinician adherence to guidelines is variable, and patient compliance with preventive evaluations is low.

Objectives: To prospectively compare outcomes during robotic prostatectomy between surgeons with formal training in either robotic prostatectomy (RALP) or laparoscopic prostatectomy (LRP).

Methods: A total of 286 robotic prostatectomies were performed by 12 urologists between August 2008 and March 2009 as part of a new robotic surgery program at one of the largest health maintenance organizations in the United States. Four surgeons had formal training in RALP and 8 had formal training in LRP.

Objectives: To report our experience with intraoperative frozen section (IFS) analysis in patients who are potential candidates for nerve-sparing surgery. Potency can be maintained in select patients who undergo radical prostatectomy using a nerve-sparing approach. However, extracapsular disease extension in the area of the neurovascular bundles may compromise adequate surgical margins in some patients undergoing such surgery.
