Using twitter to investigate responses to street reallocation during COVID-19: Findings from the U.S. and Canada.

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged and encouraged local governments to reallocate street space. The chief purpose of new regimes of street management is to expand spaces for walking and bicycling, and to ease business interactions such as curbside pickup and dining while maintaining social distancing guidelines. We investigated how North Americans on Twitter viewed alternative uses and forms of street reallocation, specifically during the early months of the pandemic from April 1, 2020 to July 1, 2020.

Nutritional health of children and youth is an increasing cause for concern in Canada. Through food and beverage messaging in multiple environments, young people develop eating behaviours with ramifications throughout their life course. Vanadium-Manganese Redox Flow Battery: Study of Mn Disproportionation in the Presence of Other Metallic Ions.

The Mn /Mn redox couple with a standard potential of +1.51 V versus the standard hydrogen electrode (SHE) has attracted interest for the design of V/Mn redox flow batteries (RFBs). However, Mn disproportionation leads to a loss of capacity, an increase in pressure drop, and electrode passivation caused by the formation of MnO particles during battery cycling.

On-Site Purification of Copper-Contaminated Vanadium Electrolytes by using a Vanadium Redox Flow Battery.

Corrosion of carbon-based electrodes and bipolar plates is a major hurdle and can be a cause of failure in commercial vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). Carbon corrosion was found to occur in a commercial VRFB (10 kW/40 kWh), whereby cracks through bipolar plates enabled the electrolyte to leach the copper current collectors at the end of the stacks, contaminating the entire electrolyte solution. In this work, the effects of copper contaminants on the operation of a VRFB were studied.

Condition of Green Ash, Incidence of Ash Yellows Phytoplasmas, and Their Association in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain Regions of North America.

About 50% of 1,057 green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica) systematically sampled in the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain regions had substantial dieback (>10% of crown branches with dieback), and the average growth ring width during the last 20 years was 2.9 mm. The overall condition of the population was rated fair.

Identification and field testing of female-produced sex pheromone components of the spring cankerworm,Paleacrita vernata Peck (Lepidoptera: Geometridae).

Two sex pheromone components, 3(Z),6(Z),9(Z)-nonadecatriene (3Z,6Z,9Z-19 ∶ H), and 3(Z),6(Z),9(Z)-eicosatriene (3Z,6Z,9Z-20∶ H), have been positively identified, and a third component, 6(Z),9(Z)-nonadecadiene (6(Z),9(Z)-19 ∶ H) has been tentatively identified from abdominal tip extracts of female spring cankerworm moths,Paleacrita vernata Peck (Lepidoptera∶ Geometridae). The pheromone components were identified by a combination of gas chromatography, electroantennography, mass spectrometry, chemical tests, comparison with standards, and field testing. Only 3Z,6Z,9Z-20 ∶ H exhibited significant attractant activity when tested alone, and it was potentiated by the other two components.

Improvement of silicon solar cell performance through the use of thin film coatings.

Thin film coatings are used universally in solar cell power systems for spacecraft. Antireflective coatings are used to increase the amount of useful energy reaching the active surface of the cell. Multilayer interference filters are employed to reject unwanted portions of the solar spectrum in order to reduce equilibrium temperature and to prevent ultraviolet damage.
