Infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in pregnant women might affect both maternal and neonatal outcomes. Based on the inconsistency between the results of the previous studies and the lack of data about the possible vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2, we designed the present study to investigate the maternal and perinatal outcomes in 182 Iranian pregnant women infected with COVID-19. Among 40 PCR tests conducted on neonatal throat samples, 11 tests were positive.

There is a relationship between low maternal UIC (Urinary iodine concentration) in pregnancy and diminished placental weight and neonatal head circumference.
