Neonatal capillary leak syndrome (CLS) is a rare, but life-threatening condition following neonatal sepsis or inflammatory injury. The objective of this study was to describe a standardized treatment approach for CLS that improves mortality and neonatal outcomes. A retrospective cohort study of 10 infants born at 22 to 26 weeks of gestation who developed CLS following a significant inflammatory insult was performed.

Chemical control methods, commonly employed, encounter challenges like resistance, high costs, and environmental concerns.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTree diversity promotes predator abundance and diversity, but evidence linking these effects to increased predation pressure on herbivores remains limited. In addition, tree diversity effects on predators can vary temporally as a function of environmental variation, or due to contrasting responses by different predator types. In a multi-year study, we assessed temporal variation in tree diversity effects on bird community abundance, diversity, and predation rates as a whole and by functional group based on feeding guild (omnivores vs.

Infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) undergo routine screening echocardiography to evaluate for development of chronic pulmonary hypertension, a late manifestation of pulmonary vascular disease.
Methods: Our aim was to evaluate left ventricular (LV) performance in infants with BPD and pulmonary vascular disease who developed systemic hypertension.
The objective of this work is to present a long-term dataset of water stable isotopes in rainfall samples from northwestern Mexico. These data is useful to generate a local meteoric water line as a reference tool for atmospheric and ecohydrological studies within the North American Monsoon region and to compare across the globe. This work shows the isotopic variation of the rainfall collected at a permanent location in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico (27.

However, in the Mexican fruit fly, , a highly destructive agricultural pest, the functions of Sfps are still largely unknown. To gain insights into female phenotypes regulated by Sfps, we used nano-liquid chromatography mass spectrometry to conduct a proteomic analysis of the soluble proteins from reproductive organs of .

Early in the pandemic, several studies reported that the risk of infection in infants was relatively small and that affected infants had a milder disease than what was seen in adults. Since the increase of the delta variant (SARS-CoV-2 B.

During copulation, female insects typically receive not only sperm, but a complex ejaculate containing hundreds of proteins and other molecules from male reproductive tissues, primarily the reproductive accessory glands. The post-mating phenotypes affected by male accessory gland (MAG) proteins include egg development, attraction to oviposition hosts, mating, attractiveness, sperm storage, feeding and lifespan.

Underrecognized and undertreated mental health disorders decrease quality of life; however, reports are inconsistent regarding the true prevalence of mental health disorders in PWH.
Methods: We conducted a systematic literature search of Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Psychinfo and the Cochrane Library, and hand searched the journal Haemophilia to identify records and subsequently conducted a meta-analysis to determine the prevalence of depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients with congenital haemophilia.
Alpha-synuclein (α-syn) is localized in cellular organelles of most neurons, but many of its physiological functions are only partially understood. α-syn accumulation is associated with Parkinson's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy as well as other synucleinopathies; however, the exact pathomechanisms that underlie these neurodegenerative diseases remain elusive. In this review, we describe what is known about α-syn function and pathophysiological changes in different cellular structures and organelles, including what is known about its behavior as a prion-like protein.

Method: We reviewed the clinical records with diagnosis of anomalous placental insertion after 34 weeks of gestation from January 2012 to January 2015.

The induction of defences in response to herbivory is a key mechanism of plant resistance. While a number of studies have investigated the time course and magnitude of plant induction in response to a single event of herbivory, few have looked at the effects of recurrent herbivory. Furthermore, studies measuring the effects of the total amount and recurrence of herbivory on both direct and indirect plant defences are lacking.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAging in all organisms is inevitable. Male age can have profound effects on mating success and female reproduction, yet relatively little is known on the effects of male age on different components of the ejaculate. Furthermore, in mass-reared insects used for the Sterile Insect Technique, there are often behavioral differences between mass-reared and wild males, while differences in the ejaculate have been less studied.
