Diet variation and trophic impact of weakfish, Cynoscion regalis, within multiple marine habitats of the eastern United States.

Weakfish (Cynoscion regalis) is not federally managed but feeds on species of management and ecological interest. We examined the trophic ecology of weakfish in Chesapeake Bay and the coastal and offshore waters of the eastern United States. For these areas, we determined the dominant prey of weakfish; identified how much diet variation was explained by the factors: season, size class, and year; and quantified prey biomass removed by weakfish from 2007 to 2019.

Cryptorchidism: The dog as a study model.

Cryptorchidism (CO) or undescended testicle is an abnormality of male gonadal development that can generate long-term repercussions in men, such as infertility and germ cell neoplasia (GCNIS). The origin of these alterations in humans is not completely clear, due to the absence of an animal model with similar testicular development as in humans with CO. This work intends to describe the testicular histological development of dogs with congenital CO, and determine whether the species could adequately serve as a study model for this pathology in humans.

The thoracic limb anatomy of anteaters in the family Myrmecophagidae is specialized for accessing termite and ant nests and for defense purposes. In the case of the northern tamandua (), the forelimbs are also adapted for arboreal and terrestrial locomotion. Unfortunately, this species faces many conservation threats, such as habitat loss and traffic accidents, and injured individuals are frequently taken to wildlife rehabilitation centers.

[Sigmoid intussusception as a clinical presentation of colonic schwannoma: Pediatric case].

Schwannomas are tumours originating in the Schwann cells of the peripheral nerves. The appearance in the colon is extremely rare, and there are no known cases in the literature of schwannomas of the colon and rectum described in children. These tumours are usually asymptomatic, but can produce non-specific and gastrointestinal symptoms.

[Predictive factors of the outcomes of prenatal hydronephrosis.].

Objectives: To determine prenatal and postnatal independent predictors of poor outcome, spontaneous resolution, or the need for surgery in patients with prenatal hydronephrosis.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study of patients with prenatal hydronephrosis. The renal pelvis APD was measured in the third prenatal trimester ultrasound, as well as in the first and second postnatal ultrasound.

Determination of 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP) in water by a continuous competitive immunoassay system based on the streptavidin-biotin interaction.

A competitive continuous immunoassay system for the determination of 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP), the major degradation product of the insecticide chlorpyrifos, in water is described. The immunoassay system is based on the transient retention of the specific LIB-MC2 monoclonal antibody anti-TCP as a biotinylated derivative using the streptavidin-biotin interaction. The permanent immobilization of streptavidin on controlled-pore-glass provides an adequate active support for the transient retention of the biotinylated monoclonal antibody anti-TCP.
