The Quality Index for Nutrition in Nursing Homes (QUINN). A new tool for evaluating diet quality in long-term care homes.

Background: the assessment of diet quality (DQ) is fundamental to the study of disease-diet associations, and it is necesary to implement an easy to-apply tool in nursing homes (NHs). Our objective was to propose and apply a novel diet quality indicator (DQIn) using an a priori approach for NHs. Methods: the QUality Index for Nutrition in Nursing homes (QUINN) was implemented in a public NH located in Valladolid, Spain, during a 5-week period (n = 137 subjects).

[Comprehensive geriatric assessment in a marginal community of Ecuador].

Background: older adults suffer from diseases that can affect their functional, psychological and social parameters. The Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is used as an evaluation tool for these parameters through the use of validated, simple and easy-to-apply instruments. Objective: to report the health status of older adults who attend a primary care center in an urban-marginal area of Guayaquil (Ecuador) through CGA, as a first step in order to establish a coordinated care plan in the areas studied.

[Diagnosis and prevalence of sarcopenia in long-term care homes: EWGSOP2 versus EWGSOP1].

Background: the definition and methodology recommended for the diagnosis of sarcopenia has been changing. The mostly applied consensus is the one published by the European Working Group in Older People in 2010 (EWGSOP1), which was updated in 2019 (EWGSOP2). Objectives: assessing the prevalence of sarcopenia in institutionalized older adults using the EWGSOP2 algorithm and comparing these results with the EWGSOP1 algorithm results.
